Government employees urged to enroll their children in public schools

Sudurpaschim State chief minister Trilochan Bhatta has said the government employees should mandatorily get their children enrolled in government schools. He said this while speaking at the foundation-laying programme of the Nijamati Karmachari Bidyalaya (school for children of civil servants) being constructed by the Sudurpaschim State Government. The school is being constructed at Bagneti of Dipayal Silgadhi municipality-4 in the district. The Chief Minister expressed his displeasure saying the employees who were drawing their salary from the state treasury were admitting their children in private boarding schools. He stated that data is being collected of the government employees throughout the Far-west State who have enrolled their children in private boarding schools. Chief Minister Bhatta on the occasion stressed on the need of abolishing the chhaupadi practice from society. Those adopting this harmful social practice should be socially boycotted, he said. Stating that the federalism has opened the door to development, he claimed the State Government was working by addressing the people’s needs. Chief Minister Bhatta also suggested that the people should monitor the works carried out by the government. The two storied school building to be constructed would have six rooms. Its estimated construction cost is Rs 23.9 million. The construction will be completed by December 2021....

PM Oli, NCP chair Dahal and NC president Deuba agree on consensus in state affairs

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba have held discussions in relation to the contemporary political situation of the country. In the consultations held this morning at the Prime Minister’s residence at Baluwatar, the three leaders agreed to move ahead on the basis of common consensus and collaboration while running the affairs of the nation, deputy leader of the NCP parliamentary party Subas Nembang, who was also present during the meeting, said. Nembang said the Prime Minister held the meeting with the main opposition party leader, Deuba, as several issues have to be discussed together with the main opposition while running the state affairs. “Common consensus is needed between the ruling and the opposition sides while running the state affairs, and this discussion is for seeking this consensus,” Nembang said, adding that the leaders have agreed to carry out works from running the parliament to making political appointment on the basis of consensus. Development impossible without peace and stability: Home Minister Thapa

Surkhet, Jan 25 : Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa has said development would not be possible in the absence of peace and stability in the country. Minister Thapa said so while addressing a press conference here today. He had arrived here to attend the two-day seminar on security organised jointly by the Government of Nepal, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Karnali State Government’s ministry of internal affairs and law here on Friday. On the occasion, he said that the government has kept crime control in priority, referring to the recent repatriation of 122 Chinese nationals who had been carrying out criminal activities from Nepal. The government had deported these Chinese nationals on January 8. “We have achieved notable success in controlling trans-border crime. The government has been conducting the campaign to eliminate Chhhaupadi practice as part of culture change and this is also having a positive impact in society,” he said. International conference on Developmental Disability begins

The 7th international conference on developmental disabilities began here Friday to discuss efforts being made to develop the capacity of the people with disabilities and the challenges they face across the globe. More than 500 delegates from Malaysia, China, Spain, Bangladesh, the US, India, Japan, Portugal, Sri Lanka, Sweden and Nepal are taking part in the conference. The delegates include mental health experts, psychologists, experts in the field, and researchers as well as academics and journalists. Speaking on the occasion, International Chair of socio-individual development through collaboration (SIVUS) Dr Katsuhiro Yamashita said the major objective of the conference was to make an important contribution in the meaningful life of people with disabilities, their parents and guardians. The SIVUS International was founded in 1974. It works for mental health of the people with disabilities. The first SIVUS conference was held in Norway in 1993. During the two-day conference various working papers are being presented on six major themes by experts and professors. On behalf of Nepal, four working papers are being presented.
