‘Senior Citizens Health Programme’ in the offing in far-west

The Far Western State Government will be implementing the ‘Chief Minister Senior Citizens Health Programme’ from the current fiscal year. The ministry of social development stated the programme is to be implemented through the district health offices. Issuing a circular, the hospital development and medical services division under the ministry has already informed all the district health offices in the State about the process going on in regard with the project implementation, said division chief Dr Chetraj Joshi. Initially, the programme will be implemented as a model one. The programme is primarily targeted at those senior citizens and people with disabilities who are not in the position of visiting health facilities to receive healthcare services. Under the programme, targets groups will be rendered services upon reaching their doorsteps. The programme to be launched as a model would be expanded to a larger scale next year if it turns out to be effective. Procedures have begun to hire workforce necessary towards that end. In the current fiscal, Rs three million has been allocated for the programme implementation. During first phase, the programme will cover 29 local levels selected on the basis of the size of the population of senior citizens and people with disabilities, it is said.
