Increasing crop loss worrying farmers

Farmers in various hilly districts of the Sudur Paschim state have been suffering due to damage caused by wildlife to their crops. Monkey menace during the day and wild boar and porcupine during the night has terrorized farmers in the district. Baitedi, Darchula, Dadeldhura and Bajhang districts are the most affected by wildlife. “Despite our continuous vigil day and night, we have not been able to stop the damage to our crops,” said Keshav Bhatta of Chadepani in ward no. 7 of Dogadakedar of Baitedi.   Currently, the maize crop has been severely damaged by wild boars. We put in a lot of effort to save the maize crop from pests but fail to protect them from wildlife, said Keshav BC of Surnaya rural municipality-7. Meanwhile, the farmers have demanded that the local governments take the initiative to control the menace of wild animals. Furthermore, the farmers are also not provided any relief and compensation for the crop loss from the wildlife. However, chief of the Maize Zone Office, Baitedi Hari Prasad Paneru said there is no government provision to compensate the loss to crops caused by wildlife. Baitedi has been declared a pocket zone for maize farming but no incentives have been provided for crop loss. Nepali Israel sign agreement on diplomatic passport

Diplomatic passport holders of Nepal and Israel will not require a VISA to travel to one another country for up to 90 days. An agreement to this end was signed between the two countries on Friday.   At a function held at the Foreign Ministry of Israel in Jerusalem, Nepali Ambassador to Israel Dr Anjan Shakya and the Foreign Minister of Israel signed the agreement on behalf of their respective countries, according to the Nepali Embassy in Jerusalem. COVID-19 cases exceed 30,000; Friday records 838 new cases

Bikram Giri The number of coronavirus infections has exceeded 30,000 in the country with 838 new cases in the last 24 hours. Now, the total number of people infected with coronavirus has reached 30,483. A total of 13,579 persons were undergone PCR test across the country in the latest round. Spokesperson at Ministry of Health and Population, Dr Jageshwor Gautam, shared at a press meet that among the infection on Friday, 546 are males and 242 females. Similarly, 250 people recovered their normal health. With this, the total number of people getting free from the virus has reached 18,214. As many as 133 infected persons have been undergoing treatment with ventilator support in different parts of the country. The active cases of infection stand at 12,132 now. Similar number of people is in quarantine and isolation, according to Dr Gautam. The latest infections are recorded in 50 districts. 182 cases in Kathmandu Valley In the last 24 hours, 182 persons got infected from the Kathmandu Valley alone. Among them, 142 are from Kathmandu, 25 from Lalitpur and 15 from Bhaktapur district. 11 die in a single day On a single day, 11 persons are recorded dead. It is the highest number of fatality so far. NAC to conduct Kathmandu-Dubai chartered flight on Sunday

The Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has decided to conduct Kathmandu-Dubai chartered flight on August 23. The NAC informed that the scheduled flight for the same was postponed on August 18. The home returnees who had already booked the flight would be brought on Sunday. The NAC has asked all passengers to compulsorily bear the COVID-19 test report (negative) together. The chartered aircraft will leave Kathmandu for Dubai at 7:30 am and arrive home at 4:15pm the same day.
