Kathmandu- The foundation stone for the construction of new school buildings at Shree Janak Secondary School in Namobuddha Municipality–4, Kavrepalanchowk, was jointly laid under the Government of India’s post-earthquake reconstruction grant assistance.
The ceremony was attended by Mr. Narayan Singh, First Secretary at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, Mr. Kunsang Lama, Mayor of Namobuddha Municipality, and Mr. Laxmi Prasad Bhattarai, Project Director of the Central Level Project Implementation Unit (CLPIU) under Nepal’s Ministry of Education and Sports. Government officials, teachers, students, media representatives, and local stakeholders were also present.
The project, estimated at approximately NPR 63.5 million (NPR 6.35 crore), will feature two new academic blocks with 18 classrooms, science laboratories, a library, and administrative offices, providing modern educational facilities for students and teachers.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Laxmi Prasad Bhattarai thanked the Government of India for its continued support in rebuilding educational infrastructure across Nepal, describing the partnership as vital to strengthening the country’s education system.
Mayor Kunsang Lama also expressed appreciation for India’s development assistance, saying the new infrastructure would significantly improve the learning environment and create better opportunities for students and educators in the municipality.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Narayan Singh said the foundation stone laying ceremony reflected the strong and enduring development partnership between India and Nepal. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting Nepal’s reconstruction and socio-economic development through grant assistance.
Under its post-earthquake reconstruction assistance programme, the Government of India has supported the reconstruction of 85 educational institutions, 133 health facilities, 30 cultural heritage sites, and 50,000 private houses across Nepal, contributing significantly to the country’s recovery and infrastructure development.
