COVID-19: cases rise to 6,000 in province no. 5

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Province no. 5 has reached 6,101. Of them, 1,297 are active cases, according to the Ministry of Social Development. On Friday, 72 new cases of Corona Virus were reported, including 39 male and 33 female. The highest were from Rupanedhi at 52, followed by 15 in Banke, three in Rolpa and one each in Kapilvastu and Nawalparasi west, according to information officer at the Ministry Dr Pushpa Raj Poudel. So far, 4,703 infected have recovered from the virus, while 27 succumbed to it. At the Corona special hospital, 104 are undergoing treatment with 16 in ICU and two with help of ventilator support. Another 20 are admitted at the Butwal Corona hospital, 17 in Bhim hospital Bhairahawa, 31 in Sushil Koirala hospital, Banke and 36 in Beljhundi Dang hospital. As of Friday, 1,476 are in quarantine. Corona Infected woman gives birth to twins

A woman, who had tested positive to Corona Virus, gave birth to twins at the Bharatpur hospital on Friday. A resident of Gorkha, she was admitted to the hospital on August 24. The 37-year-old was confirmed positive to Corona Virus two days later. She gave birth with the help of C-section and both the mother and the twin babies are in a normal condition, said Dr Ram Prasad Sapkota of the hospital. Every possible effort is being made to ensure that the infection does not spread from the new mother to her twin sons. The Bharatpur hospital has made separate provisions for maternity services for the pregnant women infected with corona virus, said information officer Liladhar Poudel. This is the second time that an infected woman has undergone C-section delivery at the hospital. Bharatpur’s drinking water distribution sees problem

Krishna Acharya The Bharatpur metropolis has witnessed trouble in the supply of drinking water. Owing to dislodgement of water supply pipes in course of road and drainage construction, distribution of drinking water to the metropolis denizens has seen troubles.   There is no coordination between the government agencies here in regard to the construction and expansion of roads. It has resulted in complications in the construction of roads and drainage structure. Bharatpur drinking water board chief Prajapati Dahal shared dislodgement and breakdown of pipes mostly occurred during construction and maintenance have invited problems in the supply of drinking water. “The lockdown enforced to contain the coronavirus has aggravated the problem”, he said, adding, “There are limited human resource to fix maintenance problems in water supply system”.   It is impossible for employees from far distance to come to the office due to lockdown; we are relying on limited staffs, he further shared. “The crisis has also prevented regular maintenance and monitoring of the water supply”. The board has prioritized the areas where pipes are broken and water supply system is disrupted, he said, adding daily at least four-five complaints related to water supply are being lodged. Tourism Ministry achieves 60 per cent progress in FY 2019/20

-CB Adhikari The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has made positive progress in the last fiscal year in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Ministry has made overall 60 per cent progress in the Fiscal Year 2019/20, according to the Annual Progress Report released by the Ministry here on Tuesday.   It is stated that the Ministry has carried out significant works in the culture, tourism and civil aviation sectors in FY 2019/20. Likewise, extensive works have been done in policy reform and promotion of good governance. Works like inter-agency cultural conservation and promotion, construction of tourism infrastructures and reconstruction of heritages have been carried out. Launching the Report booklet amidst a virtual meeting, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Yogesh Bhattarai said the expected level of progress could not be achieved due to the adverse situation brought about by the coronavirus pandemic when the largest capital expenditure and the financial and physical progress should have been made. “Much work could not be carried out between mid-December to mid-February and mid-June to mid-August owing to the adverse situation created by the COVID-19 global pandemic. WHO Representative to Nepal warns of spike of COVID-19 cases

The WHO Representative to Nepal Dr Jos Vandelaer has said along with the increasing cases of COVID-19 infected persons, the rate of death among the infected elderly persons would also soar in Nepal.   In an interview released by the Ministry of Health and Population here on Tuesday, Dr Vandelaer alerted that the death case among the elderly infected persons could increase. He said, “Until few months ago, COVID-19 cases were mostly reported from the Nepalis returning from abroad including India. As the number of returning Nepalis has waned, the score of infected cases has also declined. But lately, the COVID-19 cases have risen alarmingly and there’s likelihood of dire state due to the pandemic.” As of today, the number of COVID-19 cases in Nepal has reached 33,533 while the number of casualty due to this flu-like infection stands at 164.   The infection rate in the Nepal accounts for 0.1 per cent. According to him, although the Corona virus cases could rise, there was nothing to worry about. “Not all people will be actively infected and not all those infected ones would succumb to the deadly infection.
