Sandeep continues to shine in CPL

Nepali leg spinner Sandeep Lamichhane took two wickets to help his team Jamaica Tallawahs gain a victory in the Carribean Premier League T20 tournament. In the match held on Saturday night, Jamaica defeated St Kitts and Nevis Patriots by 37 runs. Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Jamaica scored 147 runs for 6 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. In reply, St Kitts were all out in 19.4 overs with only 110 runs on the board. In the match, Sandeep took two wickets and gave away only 27 runs. With this, Sandeep’s wicket tally in the tournament has reached nine wickets in six matches. Jamaica has now climbed to the third position in the points table. It will now play against Tribago Knight Riders on Tuesday....

Feast host tests positive: 70 samples collected

The head of a family that hosted a feast to celebrate the naming of a new born member has tested positive to Corona Virus, leading to fear of massive community spread from those who attended the occasion. Flouting prohibitory order and health protocol, the family in Galuwa in Baglung-10 had organized the feast, inviting friends and relatives, and neighbours in large number. The father of the new born daughter who had come from Lamjung to grace the event tested positive to Corona Virus. As a result, 70 people believed to have come in close contact with him during the feast have given their swab samples for testing, according to the health unit of Baglung municipality. The feast took place on August 17 and the father of the child tested positive on August 27. Swab samples of 70 attendees including the priest and guests have been collected and sent for test, said senior health assistant Dilli Acharya. Some of the family members have symptoms like fever and breathing difficulty. The swab sample of the 22-day-old baby has also been sent for test. More than 12 persons have already been confirmed positive to the virus in the municipality. A prohibitory order is in place to remain in effect until August 31....

Four arrested with deer meat

Four people have been arrested with deer meat on Saturday. The joint patrol team of the Chitwan National Park and the Nepali Army arrested them from Rapti municipalit-6 on Saturday. Those arrested are Paigi Chaudhary,35, Sajan Chaudhary,19, Sumitra Chaudhary,30 and a minor, according to chief conservation officer of the CNP Ananath Baral. The team confiscated 18 kgs of meat from the accused, along with the trap used to kill the deer. The spotted deer was reportedly trapped and killed by the accused in the Ekata community forest. Further investigation is underway. If found guilty, the accused will be sentenced to six months to one year in prison or a fine of 20,000 to 50,000 rupees or both....

Two killed in road accident involving ambulance

Two people have died and two injured in a road accident that took place at Majakot in Waling municipality-5. The accident involving an ambulance jeep (Ba. 2 Jha. 4011) took place at around 5:00 this morning. The deceased has been identified as Bhanu Bhakta Gaire,35, of Chapakot municipality-9 and Shyam Pangeni,25, of Chapakot-10, according to chief of Ward Police Office in Waling, Hari Subedi. The two died during treatment at the Garhau primary hospital. The ambulance was on its way to Chapakot from Kathmandu when it fell some 250 meters below the road. The injured Surendra Bhandari,31, and Pabitra Pokharel,28, of Chapakot-9 have been taken to Pokhara after treatment at the primary hospital....

We will have ‘India first’ policy, China port deal a mistake : Shri Lanka

NEW DELHI: Sri Lanka wants to pursue a “neutral” foreign policy but will retain an “India First” approach in strategic and security matters, foreign secretary  of Sri Lanka Jayanath Colombage has said. Speaking to a Sri Lankan TV channel, Colombage said on Monday, “President (Gotabaya Rajapaksa) has stated that in terms of strategic security, we will follow an ‘India first’ policy. We cannot afford to be a strategic security threat to India and we don’t have to be. We need to benefit from India. The president has clearly said that you are our first priority as far as security is concerned but I have to deal with other players for economic prosperity.” Along with pursuing a neutral foreign policy, Sri Lanka will protect India’s strategic interests, he added.
