Sr. Jessy CJ : Director of St. Mary’s  and Mary Ward Schools, Nepal What is education and why is it important to human society? Human mind has got such an immense power. We can use it for production or destruction. Through  education, we try to discipline our mind so that it gets focused and can be used productively. What is the difference between Nepali education system in comparison to other countries? Though I don’t like to make comparisons, I would like to say that our syllabus is good, our text books are good and the content is good but the way it is imparted needs a lot of improvement. Here we fail. Mary’s School is a renowned international brand. Many students and guardians are in thrust to study here. What is the main attraction of this school? Convent education is renowned from time eternity. The nuns who are teachers are an attraction to parents and students and the main reason for it is that the nuns take teaching profession as their mission and call from God and they are not paid for their labour. Their reward and salary are their students’ success. This spirit of teaching profession is imparted to the lay staff. In other sense, I mean to say knowledge is not sold here. TAAN Election : Khum Subedi Elected Chairman

Kathmandu: Khum Subedi from the democratic panel and Sarita Lama from the communist panel have been elected to the post of chairman and General Secretary of Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) respectively. Similarly, members from both democratic and communists panels have been elected to lead the TAAN central committee from the general elections held on Friday in Kathmandu. In the election of TAAN’s 41st Annual General Assembly, Subedi defeated another candidate Anjan Kumar Thapa by 83 votes. Subedi got 521 votes while his rival Thapa got 438 votes. Similarly, candidate for General Secretary Sarita Lama from AnjanThapa’s panel defeated Karma Sherpa by 13 votes. From the Subedi group, Naveen Trital has been elected as senior vice-president, Cholendra Bahadur Karki as the first vice-president, Bharat Sapkota as the second vice-president and Damodar Dhakal from Thapa panel elected as secretary. Similarly, Ritu Gamdan as the Treasurer and Surya Kumar Shrestha as the vice Treasurer, has been elected from the Subedi panel. Ngimadiki Sherpa of the Thapa panel was elected as a female member. Likewise, Thakur Sapkota, Prem Bahadur Lama, Mingmatenzing Sherpa and Ram Bahadur Gurung of Thapa group were elected as members of the working committee. A delegation led by Attorney General of Nepal on a 7-day observation visit to India, from 25-31 August 2019 A 12-Member delegation led by Attorney General of Nepal, comprising senior attorneys from both Federal Government and Seven (7) Provincial Governments are presently on a 7-day observation visit to India, from 25-31 August 2019. The objective of the visit is to study the relationship between the Central and State judicial systems in India, including the relationship between Attorney General of India and the Advocates General of the States. As part of the visit, the delegation visited the Supreme Court of India, Delhi High Court and attended a one-day workshop at Indian Law Institute, New Delhi. The delegation is scheduled to visit Gujarat from 28-30 August 2019 and interact with the Advocate General of Gujarat, visit High Court of Gujarat and attend a oneday workshop at Gujarat Forensic Sciences University (GFSU), Gandhinagar. Trainning Program By Embassy of India & National Reconstruction Authority

The Embassy of India, Kathmandu and National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) of Nepal organized a two-day training programme from 27-28 August 2019 on the Export Import (EXIM) Bank of India’s Line of Credit guidelines and procedures. A total of 27 Government of Nepal officials participated in the training programme. Three senior experts from the EXIM Bank of India conducted the training programme. The training programme was organized as part of a bilateral understanding reached between Government of Nepal and Government of India during the 7th Line of Credit (LOC) Review Meeting held in June 2019 in India. The first day of the training programme covered general introduction to the EXIM Bank of India’s Line of Credit (LOC) modality including project identification, prequalification and tendering process, evaluation of tender documents, empanelment process, project implementation and monitoring. The second day of the training included session by officials of GoN on Import/Export and domestic tax for Indian contractors involved in LoC projects in Nepal. A total of 28 Indian contractors attended this training session. VISIT OF NDC DELEGATION FROM INDIA TO NEPAL

A delegation from the 59th course of National Defence College (NDC) India comprising 15 senior officers from civil services and defence forces of India, UK, Japan, Mongolia & Bangladesh visited Nepal for three days from 25 Aug to 28 Aug 2019. The visiting team led by Vice Admiral Srikant, AVSM, Commandant NDC paid a courtesy call on the Honb’le Foreign Minister Mr Pradeep Kumar Gyawali and Defence Secretary Mr Reshmi Raj Pandey.  The team called on the Chief of Army Staff, Nepali Army, General Purna Chandra Thapa and discussed matters of mutual interest.  They were also briefed about various functions of the Nepali Army during their visit to the Nepali Army headquarters.  The team visited Western Division Headquarters at Pokhara as well as the prestigious Mountain Warfare School at Jomsom. The National Defence College of India is a premier institute of its type in Asia, providing instruction to senior defence and civil service officers in the wider aspects of higher direction and strategy of warfare. The course is attended by senior officers of the Indian Defence Forces and Civil Services as well as armed forces officers of friendly foreign countries.
