Skyscrapers block scenic view of mountains: Centenary figure Joshi

Lalitpur, Jan 17 (RSS): Satabdi purush (centenary figure) Satyamohan Joshi has reminded that the Kathmanduities had spent the nights after 1990BS earthquake at Tundikhel, Kathmandu. “Tundikhel was the largest open space of Asia that time. The shrinking size of Tundikhel must be stopped by the government,” he said, complaining that the skyscrapers have blocked the scenic view of mountains around the Kathmandu Valley. At a programme organized by Lalitpur Metropolitan City on the occasion of the National Earthquake Safety Day on Thursday, noted expert on culture further recalled that they could easily relish the beauty of mountains around the Kathmandu Valley then. The jungle of concrete has not only blocked people from seeing the mountains but also defaced the valley beauty, he added. Chairperson of the National Assembly, Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, has said the community schools should be developed as technical schools to generate skilled human resources needed for country’s development. Feasibility study of Madi project kicks off

The government has initiated the process for the Madi hydropower project for the production of 156 MW electricity. As per the agreement made during the Chinese President’s two-day visit to Nepal, the government began feasibility study of the Madi reservoir hydropower project. The HIDCL from Nepal and Power China from China had made agreement for this project. Based on the agreement, even a contact office has been set up at Madichaur of Rolpa district for additional works relating to the project. With the establishment of contact office, the feasibility study has begun for the project, said Minister for Energy, Hydropower and Irrigation, Barsha Man Pun. The project is the largest one in State-5. Inaugurating the contact office, Minister Pun said the project would be a game changer for State-5. There are various 14 projects under construction in the Rapti basin. The largest power project will have joint investment from Nepal and China. Snowfall again in Karnali region, posing difficulty to daily life

The Karnali region has witnessed snowfall again. It is the seventh times the Karnali region got the snowfall this year alone. With the snowfall and rains in the districts of the mountainous region in Karnali State as Humla, Dolpa, Jumla and Mugu, people are facing tough time to manage daily life. Even the people at upper belt of Jajarkot, Rukum west and Kalikot are at the receiving end of adverse weather. The snowfall and rains brought severe cold. Assistant Chief District Officer in Humla, Dattaraj Hamal, informed that the adverse weather has badly affected the people. The people here are advised not to travel long and stay out of home. Cleaning begins from Ministry itself: Minister Dhakal

Minister for Health and Population, Bhanubhakta Dhakal, has said the cleaning begins from the ministry itself. The anomalies within the ministry would be wiped out, the Minister said at a programme here on Thursday. “There are health institutes and hospitals as well for clearing the irregularities. But, the first place to be clean is the ministry itself. To clear the murky water, the source must be clean,” he stressed, adding that he was worried whether the hospitals as BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences and Bir Hospital would deteriorate being plagued by financial irregularities and corruption. Two medical equipments bought at the cost of Rs 460 million were left unused for long. They are kept under security, the Minister reminded. The Minister vowed, “I don’t allow irregularities thrive in my term. The purchase of costly machine must have slurred with irregularities. But, I won’t let it happen. Stating that the health sector, as compared to others, was a big one, Minister Dhakal pledged that he would work in a way to ensure the reform of the sector during his tenure. “It is pathetic to see the issues plaguing the health sector and I don’t have any alternative but to address them.
