The government has initiated the process for the Madi hydropower project for the production of 156 MW electricity. As per the agreement made during the Chinese President’s two-day visit to Nepal, the government began feasibility study of the Madi reservoir hydropower project.
The HIDCL from Nepal and Power China from China had made agreement for this project. Based on the agreement, even a contact office has been set up at Madichaur of Rolpa district for additional works relating to the project. With the establishment of contact office, the feasibility study has begun for the project, said Minister for Energy, Hydropower and Irrigation, Barsha Man Pun.
The project is the largest one in State-5. Inaugurating the contact office, Minister Pun said the project would be a game changer for State-5. There are various 14 projects under construction in the Rapti basin. The largest power project will have joint investment from Nepal and China. According to him, it would take eighteen months to complete the detailed project report. Both the companies from Nepal and China are experienced ones. As the project is a reservoir one, the water from it would be used for irrigation in Dang district.
