A division league: Macchindra tops the standings

The sixth round of the Qatar Airways Martyrs Memorial A division league football is coming to a close today. The final match under the sixth round is being played at Dasarath Stadium today. As of now, Macchindra club tops the points table with 13 points. In six games so far, Machhindra has won four and played a draw in two games. Likewise, Tribhuvan Army Club stands in the second position with four wins and a loss in five games, and 12 points. Manang Marsyangdi Club is in the third position with 12 points as well. Three Star Club is in the fourth, Jawalakhel Youth club in fifth and New Road Team in the sixth position. Similarly, Nepal Police Club is in the seventh position with two wins, two losses, and two draws so far while Sankata Club and Brigade Boys Club are in the eighth and ninth positions respectively. Nepali Congress central member Dr. Shekhar Koirala has said that the government should become serious to not allow the situation of the country deteriorate further. Finance Minister bats for joint effort for development of industrial sector

Minister for Finance Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada has underscored the need for inclusive investment in the industrial sector for the development and prosperity of the country. At a programme themed ‘Mixed Economy and Gender-friendly Investment’ organized by the Samriddhi Foundation here today, Minister Khatiwada urged the banks and financial institutions (BFIs) to consider increasing their investment in the small scale and medium enterprises (SMEs). Minister Khatiwada said, “Currently the big banks are funding the big industries while small scale industries are being funded by the cooperatives. The BFIs should pay attention to loan disbursement to the SMEs in an easy and convenient manner for inclusive growth of the industrial sector.” Urging for unified efforts among the government, private sector, and cooperatives, the three pillars of economy, the Minister shared that the government has formulated policies incorporating the spirit of inclusive development. Khatiwada viewed that the available resources should be mobilized accordingly for the same. Gemstone processing centre to be set up in Surkhet

A province-level gemstone processing center is to be set up in Surkhet. The federal government has made preparations for establishing such a center for mining and processing of precious and semi-precious gemstones found in Karnali. The federal government is also removing the policy complexities related to the export of gemstone. A gemstone processing center is currently in operation at the then Cottage and Small Industries Development Committee Office since 2065BS. This center has been carrying out the gemstone processing works in small quantities. Karnali State Government, Directorate of Industry and Consumer Interest Protection’s director Shambhu Prasad Poudel said cutting and polishing of precious and semi-precious gemstones in large quantities would be carried out at the new center. The Committee has trained the youths on gemstone cutting, polishing and drilling for this purpose. Kyanite, tourmaline, quartz, aquamarine, garnet, danburite and hematite are some of the gemstones found in Nepal. Director Poudel said that Karnali state is rich in minerals and gemstones. “The government has identified the possible areas where the gemstones are found and made plans to extract them. Once the processing center is set up in Surkhet,  the mass production and marketing of processed gemstones would be done, ” he said. Upper House members riled at ministries

Members of the Sustainable Development and Good Governance Committee of the National Assembly, the upper house of the federal parliament, have complained that the ministries concerned have failed to obey the committee’s directives issued at different times. A majority of the lawmakers speaking in the committee’s meeting today expressed dismay saying the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Urban Development, among the ministries, have snubbed the committee by not implementing its directives given to them at various times. They called for the committee itself to monitor whether or not its directives to the ministries have been implemented so far. Committee member Dinanath Sharma demanded that the minister and the secretary of the ministry concerned should be called to the committee’s meeting to check whether the committee’s directives have been executed. Lawmaker Bimala Rai Poudel stressed on the monitoring the implementation of the committee’s directives as well as completion of the market monitoring. Kali Bahadur Malla and Khim Kumar BK spoke of the need of making the surprise market monitoring effective.
