Snowfall again in Karnali region, posing difficulty to daily life

The Karnali region has witnessed snowfall again. It is the seventh times the Karnali region got the snowfall this year alone. With the snowfall and rains in the districts of the mountainous region in Karnali State as Humla, Dolpa, Jumla and Mugu, people are facing tough time to manage daily life. Even the people at upper belt of Jajarkot, Rukum west and Kalikot are at the receiving end of adverse weather. The snowfall and rains brought severe cold. Assistant Chief District Officer in Humla, Dattaraj Hamal, informed that the adverse weather has badly affected the people. The people here are advised not to travel long and stay out of home. Even the mobile communication is disrupted here. The teaching learning at various schools of Surkhet, Dailekh, Salyan and Rukum West are affected with the deepening cold. The Karnali Academy of Health Science, Jumla, and State Hospital, Surkhet, have suggested people to take special care of the children, senior citizens and those suffering asthma and pneumonia. Cleaning begins from Ministry itself: Minister Dhakal

Minister for Health and Population, Bhanubhakta Dhakal, has said the cleaning begins from the ministry itself. The anomalies within the ministry would be wiped out, the Minister said at a programme here on Thursday. “There are health institutes and hospitals as well for clearing the irregularities. But, the first place to be clean is the ministry itself. To clear the murky water, the source must be clean,” he stressed, adding that he was worried whether the hospitals as BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences and Bir Hospital would deteriorate being plagued by financial irregularities and corruption. Two medical equipments bought at the cost of Rs 460 million were left unused for long. They are kept under security, the Minister reminded. The Minister vowed, “I don’t allow irregularities thrive in my term. The purchase of costly machine must have slurred with irregularities. But, I won’t let it happen. Stating that the health sector, as compared to others, was a big one, Minister Dhakal pledged that he would work in a way to ensure the reform of the sector during his tenure. “It is pathetic to see the issues plaguing the health sector and I don’t have any alternative but to address them. Biplav activities justify ban: Spokesperson Banskota

Kathmandu, Jan 16 (RSS): The government Spokesperson has said the government cannot tolerate the destructive activities carried out by Biplav-led outfit, concluding that they were operated in the terroristic manner. The government has termed the party’s activities to seize the land of Baluwatar-based Lalita Niwas and explode bomb at an individual’s house at Dhungedhara on Wednesday as a terror act. At a press meet organized at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology on Thursday, Spokesperson Gokul Prasad Banskota said that the government’s prior decision to impose a ban on the party’s activities is justified with the recent activities of the Biplav-led group party. “We had already said that since the acts are done in hideouts, the activities of Biplav group, is a terror act. This is a terrorist style. This does not do well for them,” Banskota warned. Minister Banskota condemned the destructive activities of the Biplav-led group and pointed out the need of resolving difference through legal process. Country to be fully self-dependent in agriculture in five years: Minister Bhusal

Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Ghanashyam Bhusal has underscored the need of operating agricultural enterprises through modern and scientific system by breaking the traditional system. He said this while inaugurating the Rupandehi Fisheries, Agricultural and Maghi Festival, 2076 BS at Amuwa of Rupandehi district on Wednesday. He also asserted that the government has started taking steps in a planned manner for the protection of every sector in agriculture as it has become necessary. Stating that plans and programmes would be brought for making the country self-reliant in agriculture in the coming five years, the Agriculture and Livestock Development Minister asserted that the government’s programmes would be focused in that direction from now onwards. “The fish production has to be increased by 100 thousand metric tonnes annually. The way the people of Rupandehi are getting nutritious food like milk, egg, fish and meat, in the same way the people of Karnali should also have access to nutritious food. And the government is bringing a plan for achieving this,” he added.
