Rs 2.21 billion water project in Kavrepalanchowk

Sunkoshi-Panchkhal mega drinking water project in Kavrepalanchowk district will come into effect soon as preparations in this regard are in full swing, said the project consumer committee. Asian Development Bank has sent necessary documentation for the selection of contractors for the project following the completion of bidding last week, said Kumar Lamichhane, chairperson of the project consumer committee. Investors of the Rs 2.21 billion project are the government of Nepal, the town development fund, ADB and consumers. Its deadline is two years. An agreement to this effect was reached on August 29, 2019 among the town water supply and sanitation project, the town development fund, Panchkhal municipality and consumers. A deep well will be dug and water is pumped through a water lifting technology. A survey is being conducted to dig a road to the project site at Indrawati river at Bhumlu rural municipality-10 in the district. Graft cases on rise in far-west

The graft cases are found increasing in Sudurpaschim state. The annual report of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Kanchanpur has revealed growing graft incidents in the state. CIAA Kanchanpur Office chief Baram Khatiwada informed most of the complaints among 1,277 graft cases registered last year were against local government. Most of the complaints were found associated to financial irregularities and sub-standard development works. As many as 610 among the cases registered were dispensed and remaining 667 are under investigation, the report stated. The anti-graft body report noted 63 corruption cases reported in the fiscal 2075/76 and 224 of the fiscal 2074/75 were comprehensively studied and necessary actions were taken while 245 cases were sent to the concerned agency for actions. Chief Khatiwada said corruption has gone up at local level with the increase in power and authority brought out by federalism. Among the recommendations furnished by the CIAA are formulation of anti-corruption and good governance friendly laws, formation of state public service commission, appointment of human resource based on merit system, land management and record-keeping of public land, enforcement of code of conducts of people’s representatives and employees, utilization of resources and structures of revoked government offices, control of double budget appropriation and payment and improvement in public construction and procurement process. First Nepal kyokushin-kan karate championship concludes

The Gandaki state-level full contact and first Nepal Kyokushin-kan Karate Championship concluded in Dhungesanghu on Wednesday. Nepal Kyokushin-kan Karate Association Kaski chapter organised the 19th Machhapuchhre Gandaki State-Level Full Contact and first Nepal Kyokushin-kan Karate Championship. With a slogan ‘Sports for health, sports for nation’, the championship started at Pokhara Stadium on January 14. In the championship, Shalin KC emerged winner in men’s category on 25-kg followed by Satkar Pratyal in second position and Pramesh Magar and Nasib Thapa in third position. In the 30-kg category, Rohan Acharya became winner while Abhisekh Tamang clinched second and Sobin Pratyal and Praneel Shrestha got third position. Likewise, Roshan Gurung, Rajan Pokharel, Rajesh Gautam, Yubaraj Gurung, Suman Baram and Govinda Roka clinched winner title on 35-kg, 40-kg, 45-kg, 50-kg, 55-kg and open weight categories. PM Oli calls for disaster preparedness

Kathmandu, Jan 16: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has appealed to all for the preparedness in view of the natural disaster like earthquake. In a message given on the occasion of the 22nd National Earthquake Safety Day today, PM Oli wished the Earthquake Safety Day inspired everyone to be able to cope with the disasters. “Not only the enabling of state structures but also the capacity building of social life needs to be addressed for disaster preparedness,” the PM stressed, adding that the government has introduced the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act for reducing risks caused by the disaster. Recalling the 2015 Gorkha Earthquake, PM Oli viewed Nepal’s experience and expertise on post-quake reconstruction would not be erased from memory. Bomb blast at Dhakal’s residence

  A group of unknown people have hurled explosives at the residence of Dr Shobhakant Dhakal at Sanubharyang, Kathmandu this evening. According to Deputy Inspector General DIG at Metropolitan Police Office Bishwaraj Pokhrel, Netra Bikram Chand-led group has taken responsibility behind the explosion. The incident took place this evening at 7:14. However, there are no reports of any human casualty.
