Traffic lights installed at eight crossroads in Kathmandu Valley

Traffic lights have been brought into operation at eight various crossroads of Kathmandu Valley. These traffic lights which had stopped working for long have been brought into operation in coordination of Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) and the Department of Roads. Chief of MTPD, Senior Superintendent of Police Bhim Prasad Dhakal said the traffic lights have been brought into operation at Putalisadak, Padmodayamod, Singha Durbar, Old Baneshwor,New Baneshwor, Teenkune, Gaushala and Mahapal of Lalitpur. According to him, the traffic lights would be operated also at Mitrapark, Kalimati, Tankeshwor, Paropakar and Pulchowk in some days. The MTPD said traffic lights have been installed at crossroads in the Kathmandu Valley after 13 years with the Prime Minister, the Home Minister and the Inspector General of Police showing concern on the matter. Dhakal believes that installation of traffic lights would help in traffic management and reduce the traffic accidents in the Valley. Int’l film festival from Feb 13

Kathmandu, Jan 17 (RSS): The third Nepal International Film Festival is being held in Kathmandu from February 13 to 18. A total of 79 films would be screened in the film festival to be organized by Nepal Film and Cultural Academy. Minister of State for Urban Development Rambir Manandhar informed that the film festival would help boost Nepal’s image. He argued the cine artists could play significant role on country’s development and prosperity. They need to highlight the issues of national importance in the film sector, he added. The Minister of State Manandhar suggested the film makers that they prioritized the country and nationalism. According to him, various countries including India and the US have given due importance to the national identity in film, but Nepali films are yet to grasp the identity issues. On the occasion, noted cine artist Nir Shah said it was positive that various organizations were active to develop and promote national film industry. Feasibility study of Madi project kicks off

The government has initiated the process for the Madi hydropower project for the production of 156 MW electricity. As per the agreement made during the Chinese President’s two-day visit to Nepal, the government began feasibility study of the Madi reservoir hydropower project. The HIDCL from Nepal and Power China from China had made agreement for this project. Based on the agreement, even a contact office has been set up at Madichaur of Rolpa district for additional works relating to the project. With the establishment of contact office, the feasibility study has begun for the project, said Minister for Energy, Hydropower and Irrigation, Barsha Man Pun. The project is the largest one in State-5. Inaugurating the contact office, Minister Pun said the project would be a game changer for State-5. There are various 14 projects under construction in the Rapti basin. The largest power project will have joint investment from Nepal and China.
