State-2 periodic plan approach paper to bring quality change in people’s living standard

Janakpurdham, Jan 23 : The State-2 government has set a target to reduce poverty rate by achieving high economic growth within next five years in order to bring quality change in the living standard of the State’s citizens. The state-2 government has prepared periodic plan approach paper to achieve 11 per cent growth from the existing 6.53 per cent growth within next five years with the goal of high-human development index and prosperous Medhes society for the same.  A strategy has been adopted to reduce overall poverty rate of the state to 21 per cent from the existing 27.7 per cent. As per the Economic Survey 2075 BS, a target has been set to achieve economic growth rate of 11 per cent till the end of the first provincial planning increasing economic growth by 0.5 per cent every year taking the gross domestic product of the state of the fiscal year 2018/19 as the basis. The GDP of the state in the previous fiscal year was Rs 444.49 billion. Nepalgunj sub-metropolis becoming neat and clean with operation of landfill site

Banke, Jan 23 : The Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City has become neat and clean these days with the coming into operation of a landfill site. The main city of the mid-western region has now changed its face.  The landfill site has been constructed with the assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) at a cost of more than Rs 380 million.  About 32 tonnes waste is collected from the city and carried by 17 trucks to the dumping site. The compost fertilizer that is made out of the biodegradable waste is sold, said Shiva Lamichhane, an employee of the Waste Collection Contracting Company. According to him, an income of around Rs 30 thousand to Rs 40 thousand is made by selling glass, plastic, bottles and tyre collected from the waste. Sub-Metropolitan City’s sanitation section officer Ashok KC said seven percent of the waste is dumped in the dumping site. Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City mayor Dr Dhawal Shumsher Rana said the sub-metropolis is becoming the best in waste management as the people are now becoming more aware when it comes to sanitation and the operation of a systematic landfill site. Belgian princess Astrid on a tour of Chitwan National Park

Belgian Princess Astrid is now on a tour of Chitwan National Park. She is enjoying the visit.  The Bagmati State government’s ministry of industry, tourism, forest and environment and the Bharatpur Metropolitan City welcomed the Belgian royal guest at one of the entry gate to the park at Meghauli on Wednesday evening.  The Bagmati State Government organized a dinner in her honour in the evening. On the occasion, the State’s minister for industry, tourism, forest and environment Arun Prasad Nepal informed the Princess about the tourism destinations in the Bagmati State including Chitwan National Park. Bharatpur Metropolitan City mayor Renu Dahal, Princess Astrid’s husband Lorenz and members of her delegation, representatives of the Federal Government’s ministry of tourism and the ministry of foreign affairs, Nepal’s ambassador to Belgium, Lok Bahadur Thapa, among other dignitaries attended the dinner. Ambassador Thapa said Princess Astrid and the Belgian delegation accompanying her is scheduled to go on a private tour of the National Park the whole day today. The Princess and her delegation will go on a boat ride and jungle safari. Chitwan National Park is home to the one-horned rhino, the Royal Bengal Tiger, gharial crocodile, many species of birds and butterflies. Nepal improves in corruption ranking

Kathmandu, Jan 23:  Nepal has made improvement in its ranking in the list of the corrupt countries. In the Corruption Perception Index 2019 released by Transparency International Nepal here today, Nepal made slight improvement by climbing down three positions in the CPI. Nepal secured 113rd position in a list of 180 countries of the world, scoring 34 points out of 100 points. Earlier in 2018, Nepal had secured 124th place with 31 points. The improvement was seen as per the survey carried out by six organisations—World Bank, World Economic Forum, Global Insight, World Justice Project, Bertelsmann Foundation and V-Dem. Denmark has been ranked least corrupted country with 87 points. Likewise, Somalia is the most corrupted one with nine points. Bhutan has been listed as the least corrupted country in South Asia being placed in the 25th position with 68 points. Similarly, India and China are placed in the 80th position with 41 points each. Sri Lanka has been ranked 93rd with 38 points, Maldives 130th with 29 points and Afghanistan 173rd with 16 points. Acton against corruption, proactive judiciary and security agencies are attributed to helping Nepal progress on the corruption perception index, said Mukunda Pradhan, General Secretary of the Transparency International...

Central Zoo going digital

The Central Zoo is going digital relieving visitors from standing in a long queue for hours to book tickets. Following this, zoo-goers can book tickets online from anywhere. The zoo will go digital within the current fiscal year, 2076/77 as the administration is at work in this regard, said Dr. Chiranjibi Prasad Pokharel, chief of the zoo administration. Visitors can save their time and fewer workforce are required after the zoo going online, he said. At present, the zoo has five employees booking tickets. The number of people visiting zoo has increased as people are interested in watching different types of animals and birds as well as spending time in open space as there is lack of enough open space in the Kathmandu Valley. The entrance fee has been determined Rs 750 for foreigners, Rs 500 for guests of SAARC countries, Rs 150 for Nepali citizen and Rs 90 for students and senior citizens. Some 1.1 million people visit the zoo every year and the annual transaction is worth Rs 150 million. The Zoo management has set up an information centre with an electronic notice board at the entry gate itself for the convenience of the visitors.
