The State-2 government has decided to raise the insurance amount from its current Rs 100 thousand to Rs 300 thousand for the education of the girl child in the State. In a press conference organized here Friday, Chief Minister of State-2 Lalbabu Raut informed about the hike. The State-2 had introduced the insurance scheme to encourage and empower girls under the flagship ‘Beti Bachau Beti Padhau’ (Save Girl Child, Educate Girl Child) campaign in mid-January last year. Furthermore, CM Raut informed that 4,373 girls under 18 years have been benefited from the scheme so far. The new decision also includes that the insurance amount would be provided to the beneficiaries from the local units in lump sum rather than the State government for which they ought to obtain the citizenship identity card and complete their education to certain level. He also said that request would be made to local units to consider further increasing the insurance amount up to Rs 600 thousand. Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Banskota has said Nepal was readying to run the first ever international television channel. Speaking at a programme to launch the NTV Itahari, the fifth channel of Nepal Television, here Friday, Minister Banskota said the maiden international channel would be broadcasted in English language. ”We will be running one of the five channels of Nepal Television as NTV World within a year”, informed Baskota, also the Spokesperson of the government, adding, ”It will be broadcasted in English language round the clock.” Addressing the function, the Minister argued that the channel would be a medium for Nepal and Nepalis to interact with globe. He further informed that the government had expedited works to establish an ultra-modern data center in Dharan. Minister Baskota clarified that the license exam for journalists would not be enforced. On a different note, the government Spokesperson reminded that MCC was just a grant agreement but not for military strategy. A bird of rare species has been again spotted in the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve in Sunsari. The Reserve is considered as the heaven for bird life. The Reserve which covers wetlands measuring 175 kilometers in three districts – Sunsari, Uydaypur and Saptari – is home to several species of birds, the record shows. Lately, one more rare species of birds ‘Swinhoe’s minivet’ which is named ‘Seto Pete Ranichari’ in Nepali has made its second presence here, according to Koshi Tappu Bird Watching Camp operator Kurwan Mansuri. The Bird Conservation Nepal also confirms the presence of the new member in the Reserve. Though the bird was said to be of the new species, ornithologist Badri Chaudhary had first noticed it in the Reserve on November 19, 2011. It is a migratory bird from India and is less visible than the rare species of birds, Dr Baral said. At the time, ‘ashy minivet’ and ‘Swinhoe’s minivet’ were recorded and since then the ‘Swinhoe’s minivet’ has not made its presence before this here. This time, its picture was taken by photographer Sanjay Tha Shrestha.
