Over 11 thousand trees chopped down for Arun III, Koshi corridor

Over 11,000 trees were chopped down in course of the implementation of two hydropower projects in Sankhuwasabha, the district in State 1. Such a number of trees were felled for the implementation of 900-megawatt Arun III hydropower project and 220-KV Koshi corridor transmission line. The trees were being managed by 18 community forest areas. Earlier, the Council of Ministers had agreed on the removal of over 14 thousand trees of community and private forest areas for the construction of projects. The Arun III’s dam side is based in Phyaksinda of Makalu rural municipality-5 and its power house is located at Diding Pukhuwa of Chichila municipality. HoR meeting obstructed today too

Today’s meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) has been obstructed following the protest of main opposition party, Nepali Congress (NC). The meeting which started around 45 minutes behind the schedule could not be forwarded following the interruption by the NC lawmakers. They stood from their respective seats in a gesture of protest. The NC parliamentarians objected to the corruption case lodged by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) at the Special Court against their parliamentary party’s deputy leader Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar in connection to Lalita Niwas land scam. It is the third time NC obstructed the House over the same issue in the current session. In today’s meeting, HoR Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota repeatedly requested for the lawmakers’ cooperation to run the House smoothly, but the protest from the opposition party’s lawmakers continue unabated. The Speaker, apprising the House of constitutional provision about the matter, made it clear that the issue could not be resolved by the parliament as it has already entered the court. No meaning of protesting against govt.: Minister Banskota

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Banskota has said that the government was committed to maintaining good governance in the country. He was speaking at a programme held on Saturday to announce ward no. 1 of Panauti municipality ‘child-friendly local governance ward.’ He said the Baluwatar land scam was investigated and prosecuted by the CIAA and CIB, hence there was no meaning of protesting against the government for the same. “The remaining work will be done by the Court,” he added. Kageswari festival to be held

On the occasion of Visit Nepal Year 2020, the 5th Kageswari festival is being held from coming February 17 to 19. The festival is organised to promote the Kageswar dham located in ward no. 1 of the Kageswari municipality and thereby attract foreign and domestic tourists. Accordingly, a 13-member committee has been formed led by local Shyam Lama to make the festival successful.
