Shringla inaugurates four development projects in Gorkha and Manang

On the second and final day of his official visit to Nepal, Foreign Secretary of India Harsh Vardhan Shringla addressed a limited gathering of leading civil society members on India-Nepal relations at an event hosted by the Asian Institute of Diplomacy and International Affairs (AIDIA) in Kathmandu. His speech laid out the foundational multi-dimensional strength of the ties between the two countries and the vision for taking it forward.  In the afternoon, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla travelled to Gorkha and inaugurated three schools constructed with Indian reconstruction assistance viz. Shree Mahalaxmi, Shree Ratnalaxmi and Shree Tara Secondary Schools, in the presence of Mr. Ram Krishna Sapkota, Secretary, National Reconstruction Authority of Nepal. There are about 1600 students in these three schools who now have the advantage of the newly constructed earthquake resilient school buildings. These schools are part of 71 educational institutes across nine districts being built under Government of India grant assistance of US $ 50 million for reconstruction in the education sector. The nine beneficiary districts are Gorkha, Nuwakot, Sindhupalchowk, Ramechhap, Dolakha, Kavrepalanchowk, Dhading and Kathmandu. New atmosphere of Nepal India relation : Shringla visit to Nepal

Foreign Secretary of India Harsh Vardhan Shringla, commenced his two-day official visit to Nepal today. During the course of the day, Foreign Secretary met Mr. Bharat Raj Paudyal, Foreign Secretary of Nepal and called on President of Nepal, Rt. Hon’ble Mrs. Bidya Devi Bhandari, Prime Minister of Nepal, Rt. Hon’ble Mr. K.P. Sharma Oli and Foreign Minister of Nepal, H.E. Mr. Pradeep Kumar Gyawali. The meetings were conducted in a cordial and positive atmosphere. In their meeting, the two Foreign Secretaries discussed and reviewed various aspects of the bilateral ties between the two countries. They expressed satisfaction at the substantial progress made in different sectors of cooperation despite the constraints of the pandemic. The Nepali side appreciated Indian Government’s active facilitation in ensuring smooth and unhindered cross-border flow of trade and commerce and active implementation of development projects during this time. Railway JWG discusses running train services on Jaynagar-Kurtha Cross Border Rail link.

The 4 th India-Nepal Joint Working Group meeting on Railway Cooperation was held today via video-conferencing. The Indian side was led by Dr Manoj Singh, Executive Director (Traffic Transportation-F), Ministry of Railways, Government of India and Nepali side was led by Er Gopal Prasad Sigdel, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport of Government of Nepal. Other stakeholders who participated from both sides included senior officials from Indian Railway, Ministry of External Affairs, Embassy of India in Kathmandu, Konkan Railways and IRCON on the Indian side and Director General, Department of Railway (DoRw), General Manager of Nepal Railway Company (NRC), officials from Ministry of Home and Foreign Affairs of Government of Nepal from Nepali side. 2. The JWG reviewed the cross border rail link projects that are between Jaynagar-Bijalpura-Bardibas and Jogbani-Biratnagar under advance implementation. Both sides discussed the technical preparedness of the completed 34 km long section of the railway line between Jaynagar in India and Kurtha in Nepal for the purpose of running passenger train services, including the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) that need to be put in place for resumption of passenger train services by Nepal Railway Company (NRC).
