NRB Governor stresses on joint initiatives for rescuing economy

Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor, Maha Prasad Adhikari has stressed on the need of the governments and the central banks of AFI and G 24 member states to focus on reviving the economy dented by COVID-19. The Central Bank Governor expressed this view while addressing the Roundtable Meeting of the G 24 AFI Policymakers on Wednesday. On the occasion he reiterated focusing on resource management and promotion of policy and regulatory concessions and digital banking system for the revival of the small and medium enterprises/ businesses. Governor Adhikari suggested taking the adverse situation brought about by the global coronavirus pandemic as an opportunity to promote the electronic pay system and e-commerce. “Promotion of digital banking can help in enhancing youth employment and entrepreneurship development,” he said. Also the Board Member of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI), Governor Adhikari said the problems seen due to COVID-19 should also be seen as opportunities. APF Nepal establishes three border outposts in Kanchanpur

The Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal has set up three border outposts in Kanchanpur. The border outposts have been established at Doke Bazaar, Aanptaal and Khaddakankad of Punarbas Municipality on Tuesday. NRB Governor and World Bank Group hold consultations

Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari has informed the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group on the effect of COVID-19 on Nepal’s economy and the financial sector as well as on the policy provisions adopted to mitigate it. The central bank stated this in a press release on Tuesday. It stated that Governor Adhikari participated in the annual joint meeting of IMF and the World Bank Group through online and informed about the positive practices being done in Nepal. Governor Adhikari attended the virtual meeting held from October 12 to 18. He thanked the IMF for its economic and technical support to Nepal’s development process. Likewise, Governor Adhikari held discussions with Alfonso Garcia, the Vice President of the International Financial Corporation (IFC)’s Asia pacific Region. On the occasion, the IFC vice president inquired about the institutional restructuring of Nepal’s financial sector, enhancement of the fiscal capacity, investments in the hydropower sector and issuing bonds in domestic currency, among other topics. Child dies after drowning in river

A child has died after being swept away by the Bhimgothe river in Badigad rural municipality in the district. The deceased has been identified as seven-year-old Anup, the son of Anuj KC, a resident of ward no. 7 in the rural municipality, according to deputy superintendent of police Rajendra Regmi, information officer of the District Police Office, Baglung.
