South Korea to provide anti-COVID-19 vaccine to Nepali free of cost

The Government of South Korea is to administer anti-coronavirus vaccination to all domestic and foreign nationals residing in its country free of cost. At a press conference held on Monday, Chief of South Korea’s Department of Disease Control and Prevention Jeong Eun-kyeong informed that all domestic and foreign nationals residing in South Korea would be freely administered the vaccine against the COVID-19. Earlier, the Korean government had announced to freely provide vaccines only to its citizens.In the meantime, the government has made a new decision to administer anti-COVID vaccine to all foreigners residing in South Korea. With this decision coming to effect, over 50,000 Nepali presently living in South Korea will also entitle to get the vaccine free of cost. Frontline health workers and volunteers would be put on top priority while administering the vaccine that is to kick start from coming month. Next priority would be given to senior citizens, children, helpless and people living with disabilities, it was shared in the press conference. Lately, South Korea has also confirmed the detection and wider transmission of new variant of coronavirus. Some weeks ago as many as 1,000 cases of coronavirus were diagnosed everyday in the country. KMC starts removing algae from Ranipokhari

Kathmandu, Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has started removing algae from the Ranipokhari in a bid to make it clean and more beautiful. It started removing algae from Monday to maintain beauty of the historical Ranipokhari as algae started covering the pond there. The cleaning is being done with support of 20 municipal police personnel daily, said KMC Municipal Police Chief, Dhanapati Sapkota. He added, “National Reconstruction Authority has not handed over the Ranipokhari to KMC after its reconstruction. However, we started removing the algae as the heritage site is under our jurisdiction.” Discussion is underway regarding the issue of filling the water in Ranipokari as problem has surfaced due to decreasing water level, shared Sapkota. After the reconstruction, 32.2 million litres of water was filled in Ranipokhari and there is now only around 20 million litres of water. President Bidya Devi Bhandari had inaugurated the Ranipokhari on October 21, 2020 after its reconstruction. Ranipokhari was damaged by Gorkha earthquake. Nepal approves India’s ‘COVISHIELD’ Covid-19 vaccines for Emergency use

The government of Nepal has decided to approve ‘COVISHIELD’ Covid-19 vaccines produced by Serum Institute of India Pvt Ltd for emergency use in Nepal. This is the first time that any Covid-19 vaccine has been approved for use in Nepal. A meeting of the officials of the Department of Drug Administration made the decision today. Earlier on Wednesday, the department had called producers to register their vaccines for emergency use in Nepal. Sixth India-Nepal Joint Commission Meeting

  The sixth meeting of the India-Nepal Joint Commission was co-chaired by the External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nepal H.E. Mr. Pradeep Kumar Gyawali in New Delhi on 15 January 2021. The two delegations included Foreign Secretary of India, Shri Harsh Vardhan Shringla and Foreign Secretary of Nepal, Mr. Bharat Raj Paudyal and other senior officials from both sides. The Joint Commission comprehensively reviewed all aspects of multifaceted cooperation between the two countries and explored ways to further strengthen the traditionally close and friendly ties.both sides discussed several areas of cooperation including in the areas of connectivity, economy and trade, power, oil and gas, water resources, political and security issues, border management, development partnership, tourism, culture, education and capacity building.
