Agriculture sector has weakness in data: Secretary Dr Mishra

Secretary at the Karnali Province Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives, Dr Rajendra Prasad Mishra has termed ‘inadequacy of data’ as a prime weakness in agriculture sector. Making his concluding remarks at a three-day ‘Province-level Orientation on Farmers’ Indexing System’ organized by the Ministry of Agriculture Development Kathmandu and coordinated by Karnali Province Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives on Tuesday, he claimed that data was the main basis for planning and development in any sector. ‘If any problem prevails in agriculture that is data. We are slipping in the process of carrying out our works based on right data. We could not do proper works in agriculture in absence of factual data of the farmers,’ he noted. Secretary Dr. Mishra claimed that, ‘We can draw out a framework plan for perspective development once we enter the data into a syste.’ ‘Currently there are 298,000 households in Karnali Province. We can go nearby the fact by collecting data of 250,000 households. Registration of famers would start from mid-February once the training was conducted across the country”, Dr Mishra added. He said categorization of farmers can be done in the second phase only following the collection of data. Army and Police competing in Women’s League Football today

The National Women League Football Tournament is kicking off today. Departmental teams, Tribhuvan Army Club and Nepal Police Club, are competing in the match to be held in Tripureshwor-based Dasharath Stadium. All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) is hosting the tournament. The inaugural match is to take place at 2.00 pm this afternoon. Arrangement has been made for free entrance to the inaugural match of women league for the first time, shared ANFA spokesperson Kiran Rai. Other matches however would be held in Satdobato-based ANFA ground. One dies, two injured in a road accident

Chitwan- A person died and two others were injured in a road accident at Rapti municipality-5 in east Chitwan. Chandra Bahadur Shrestha, 45, of Khotang died in the accident that took place when a bus and a truck collided with each other in the area nearby Kalika Petrol Pump last night. According to the District Police Office Chitwan spokesperson DSP Surya Bahadur Thapa, a truck (Na 7 Kha 2111) en route to Kakadbhitta from Kathmandu and a truck (Na 6 Kha 4281) coming from opposite direction collided with each other. Critically injured bus driver Shrestha died on the way to a hospital. Other injured are bus helper Binod Sharma Sangraula, 49, of Rautahat Chapur-4 and truck helper Sunil Kumar Sah of Jeetpur-Simara sub-metropolis-23 of Bara. The injured are undergoing treatment at Chitwan Medical College (Old). According to the hospital sources, their condition is medium. Police said that all 15 passengers of the bus are safe. KMC completes construction of 69 infrastructure projects in six months of current FY

Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has completed construction of 69 infrastructure projects in the six months of the current fiscal year, 2020/21, said the KMC. Blacktopping of 23 kilometres roads within the KMC and repair of 34,165 square metres roads has been completed. Likewise, construction of four ward buildings, two other buildings and two overhead bridges has been over. Three kilometers road has been plastered. Work like installing drainages along 972 meters and laying blocks along 860 meters has been completed, said KMC’s Spokesperson Ishwor Man Dangol. There are approximately 1,450 kilometers asphalt roads within the KMC. The metropolis repairs only roads below eight meters in width. There are 950 kilometers roads within the KMC below eight meters in width. Under social development, the KMC has projects worth Rs 1.62 billion, said Dangol. KMC has prepared 109 programmes, including 77 programmes that the Department will carry out through the mobilization of internal resources based on the 23 policies on social security adopted by the metropolis, 24 programmes to be carried out with the conditional grants provided by the Government of Nepal and eight programmes implemented through the Prime Minister Employment programme. Among these, 66 programmes have already been started while 32 are in the implementation phase. Similarly, Rs 3.10 billion revenue has been collected so far towards income.
