Kathmandu- The foundation stone for the construction of a new school building at Shree Janhit Secondary School in Namobuddha Municipality, Kavrepalanchowk, was laid under the Government of India’s post-earthquake reconstruction grant assistance.
The foundation stone was jointly laid by Mr. Narayan Singh, First Secretary at the Embassy of India, Mr. Kunsang Lama, Mayor of Namobuddha Municipality, and Mr. Laxmi Prasad Bhattarai, Project Director of the Central Level Project Implementation Unit (CLPIU) under Nepal’s Ministry of Education and Sports. The ceremony was attended by government officials, teachers, students, media representatives, and local stakeholders.
The project, estimated at NPR 55 million (NPR 5.50 crore), will include two school blocks featuring seven classrooms, science laboratories, administrative offices, and modern sanitation facilities. It is being implemented through the Government of India’s grant assistance for Nepal’s post-earthquake reconstruction efforts.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Laxmi Prasad Bhattarai acknowledged India’s continued technical and financial support in rebuilding Nepal’s educational infrastructure following the devastating earthquakes.
Mayor Kunsang Lama expressed gratitude to the Government of India, emphasizing that improved school infrastructure is essential for providing students with a better learning environment and enhancing the quality of education.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Narayan Singh highlighted the wide range of development projects being implemented across Nepal under India’s grant assistance programme. He said the Janhit Secondary School project represents another milestone in the long-standing development partnership between India and Nepal.
The project reflects the deep and multifaceted cooperation between the two neighbouring countries while complementing the Government of Nepal’s efforts to strengthen educational infrastructure and accelerate post-earthquake reconstruction.
