Kathmandu folks to enjoy water supply five days a week

Kathmandu – Water supply in Kathmandu valley has been increased by 30 million litres daily as of Saturday. There will be more water coming to 70,000 water taps in the valley, the Kathmandu Valley Drinking Water Project Directorate has said. Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara inaugurated the additional supply of water to the drinking water distribution network of the valley. On the occasion, he stressed that the government should ensure people’s right to safe drinking water, a fundamental rights established by the Constitution. Drinking Water Minister Bina Magar said the service recipients will now be able to enjoy two hours of water supply five days a week. It was only two hours for once in a week before. DAO Dang to open on Saturday too

Dang – The District Administration Office, Dang will remain open on Saturday too, so as to ensure continuous service to the citizens. The Saturday service began yesterday with six service recipients benefitting from it. Of them three acquired their citizenship certificate, one each passport and vehicle pass recommendation and one verified his surname, according to Chief District Officer Gajendra Bahadur Shrestha. This will end the existing compulsion of service recipients having to wait until Sunday if their work remains incomplete by Friday. It will also make productive use of Saturday, CDO Shrestha said. Pasang Lhamu highway closed

Nuwakot – Traffic along the Nuwakot-Rasuwa way on the Pasang Lhamu highway has been obstructed after the flooded Gerkhu river washed away a section of the road in Trishuli-Betrawati section. Flood water from the river washed away the road on both the sides of the bridge over the river this morning, bringing traffic between Nuwakot and Rasuwa to a standstill since this morning, the District Police Office has said. Free social services at Chandragiri

Kathmandu – At a time when the local level governments have been criticized heavily for imposing unnecessary taxes on their citizens, the Chandragiri municipality has stood aloof from the crowd. It has made free the major recommendations concerning social services provided by the municipality. Accordingly, recommendations for citizenship certificate, birth registration, marriage registration, migration, registration of divorce case, death registration, recommendation for scholarship, pension, and benefits for the quake survivors are all provided without any charge. The social service tax (recommendation tariff) has been made free for this financial year too from all the 15 ward offices of the municipality, according to Mayor Ghanashyam Giri. This was free last year too, and we have no policy to charge fee on such recommendations. Fifteen thousand transport employees jobless

Kathmandu – The Nepal Transport Workers Association has said that the decision of the government to dissolve transport associations and committee has laid off some 15,000 transport employees. The 15,000 employees were working for the 400 committees active across the country and they have all lost their job as result of the government’s decision, the Association Chair Dharma Raj Bhandari said. The meeting Saturday of the Association has also objected to the provision made in the new civil code, which has prescribed 10 years in prison to a driver who is responsible for accident leading to fatalities. The meeting decision to run a nationwide campaign for a new structure as per the statute amended by the last general assembly, expand organisation in new locations, enforce minimum wage in all transport workers, exert pressure for enforcement of the social security act and form thematic committee to assign responsibilities.
