Dr Bhattarai voices for amending Civil Code

Kathmandu –  Member in the House of Representatives (HoR), Dr Baburam Bhattarai, has drawn the government’s attention towards making correction in the weaknesses in the Penal and Civil Codes that came into effect from August 17. Taking a time in the special hour of the lower house today, he stressed the need of addressing dissenting voices relating to the Code. In his comment on the bill to amend the Citizenship Act, he said seeking the identity of a father in the citizenship was itself a discriminatory. He was of the view of recognizing an independent presence of women. He drew the government’s attention towards listing Nepal as the 27th country in regard with guaranteeing equal rights to sexual minorities and other minorities. He called for amending the provision in Civil Code that puts restriction on free press. He demanded the government bring control over land to the State and provide only tenancy rights to the people. Amend provision curtailing press freedom: NC President Deuba

Kathmandu – Leader of the major opposition Sher Bahadur Deuba has demanded the amendment in the provisions of the Criminal and Civil Codes which curtail press freedom. Taking special time in the meeting of the House of Representative today, leader Deuba said process to amend the Codes should be initiated because the democracy can not be strengthened without press freedom. “There is mounting worry over the failure to nab the culprit behind the rape and murder of girl. Govt to fix medicine price, generic name of medicine obligatory

Kathmandu – It is not that unusual the leaders of different parties take contradictory stands on many issues. But, the former two health ministers belonging to different parties were univocal in terms of revising the bill relating to public health service during the House of Representative meeting on August 21. The ruling party leader Khagaraj Adhikari said the VIP treatment ward at Bir Hospital needs to be utilized. The VIPs should take service from there. The health practitioners, medical instruments and the lab there are of international standard, he added and argued that those going abroad for treatment should bear the personal cost. The bill relating to public health service therefore needs amendment. Leader of the main opposition Gagan Kumar Thapa truly supported Adhikari’s view. Both are the former health ministers. For many years, the VIP ward at Bir Hospital is of course awaiting for service to VIPs. Delayed registration results in no chance for two players to attend Asian Games

Kathmandu –  Two Nepali athletics players reached Indonesia to participate in the ongoing 2018 Jakarta Palembang Asian Games have been deprived of joining the competition due to delayed registrations. Nepali sports office bearers failed to notice that whether the registrations of names of those players selected for the regional competition were made on time. Bishwa Rupa Budha could not take part in the women’s 10,000 meters race while Somlal Kumal was barred from joining the men’s 400 meters held last Saturday.
