Nepal needs to present its achievements before global community-Gyawali

New York –  Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali said the United Nations General Assembly’s 73rd Session would be utilized to present Nepal’s hard-earned achievements before the global community. He expressed the hope that the UNGA session would be useful to garner additional international support in Nepal’s efforts for materializing people’s prosperity and happiness. Minister Gyawali said this in response to the queries put by Nepal Television and Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) in New York. Minister Gyawali is a Nepal delegation member headed by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to the UNGA. He said that Nepal promulgated a new Constitution to institutionalize federal democratic republic achieved after an assiduous struggle and also successfully held three tiers of elections to implement the main law of the land. Nepal received good will from all international community including the UN in its bid for epochal changes and the government is trying to connect these changes to the economic lives of Nepali people, he noted. Swargadwari airport construction plan unveils

Pyuthan –  A plan with an estimated cost of Rs 770 million was unveiled for the construction of Swargadwari (Chalnetar) Airport in Pyuthan. Acting on a proposal of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, Fact Consultant Pvt Ltd – a consultant company carried out an environmental impact assessment of the project and informed the public about its findings. In addition, a public hearing was also undertaken in the project site. The airport under construction at Barjiwang Chalnetar of Swargadwari municipality is stretched over around 60.79 hectares land. According to the assessment, the project construction will affect 14 households including 12 from Chalnetar and two from Upper Damar and render 107 family members displaced from the area. Environment Impact Assessment team leader Dr Mahendra Nath Subedi said around 6,256 saplings of different 18 species will be ruined while pooling 55.18 hectares forest land in course of the project construction. He shared that 0.4 hectares of residential area and other structures will be permanently affected. immediately after the disclosure of EIA report, the residents of the project potential affected areas said they would not abandon their residential area without proper compensation. Japan provides medical equipment worth Rs 1 billion

Kathmandu – The government of Japan has provided medical equipment to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH). Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) provided physical and medical equipments worth one billion rupees under the third-phase assistance. At a progranme organised here today, Japanese Ambassador to Nepal, Masamisi Saigo, and Chief Representative of JICA Nepal, Jun Sakuma, handed over the various types of medical equipments including digital monograph, CM X-ray machine, ventilator and anesthesia machine to Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Girirajmani Pokharel. JICA had provided support for construction of physical infrastructure and medical equipments to TUTH in 1983 for the first time and in 1992 for second time. All the physical structures at around 700-bed TUTH are constructed as per Japanese model. On the occasion, Minister Pokharel said that Japanese government’s support was very import in Nepal’s education and health sector while Japanese Ambassador to Nepal, Saigo, said the government of Japan would continue the support in Nepal’s economic and social development in days to come. Sub-regional hospital to be integrated in to Institute of Health Science

Ghorahi – The sub-regional hospital based in Dang is to be merged into the Rapti Institute of Health Science. Following the directive from the Ministry of Health to transfer all the properties and liabilities of the hospital, the sub-regional hospital is to be handed over on coming September 28. An all-party meeting held at the District Administrative Office, Dang on Sunday forged a consensus to transform the hospital to the Institute of Health Science. Acid attack survivor Samjhana dead

Kathmandu – Samjhana Das, who was seriously injured in an acid attack incident, died while undergoing treatment at 11.30 last night. Das breathed her last while being treated at Kirtipur Hospital. Samjhana Das and Susmita Das, daughters of Jadav Lal Das hailing from Chandrapur municipality-6, Rautahat, were attacked with acid on September 11 evening. Rambabu Paswan, a local, aged around 50, had allegedly thrown acid to the Das sisters in the night while the latter were asleep at their home citing refusal of his love proposal. The acid had burnt almost all body parts, including face of Samjhana. Her sister Sushmita, however, is out of danger. Police have already arrested Paswan for his involvement in acid...
