Belt Road Initiative and Nepal

– Biplav Dhakal The zeal of making a difference in the world by doing something for which you will be remembered on for years has existed in human beings throughout their evolution. This very zeal made our ancestors move out of their caves of Stone Age and build sky scrapers in the modern era. This very zeal caused huge technological advancements and the process doesn’t stop. And this very zeal has made China to propose the most ambitious project of modern history, the Belt Road Initiative. The BRI or the One Belt One Road was officially announced in 2013 by the newly elected     president of People’s Republic of China, Xi Jingping. This project is meant to be the revival of the ancient Silk Road that existed thousands of years ago and it connected China with other different parts of the world. BRI will cover 4.4 billion people, 40% of world GDP and 39% of world land area. The BRI includes two components: Maritime Silk Road, which is the sea route and the Economic Belt, which is the land route. Under the project, different infrastructures such as pipelines, railways, highways, industrial parks, power plants, mines and so on will be built. BJP Leader Jolly Honored in Nepal

Senior Indian BJP Leader Vijay Jolly attended 21st Anniversary celebrations of Reporters Club of Nepal at Kathmandu. The program was inaugurated by Prime Minister K.P. Sharma ‘Oli’ and addressed by Co-Chair Nepal Communist Party Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Former Chief Justice of Nepal Khil Raj Regmi, Indian Ambassador H.E. Manjeev Singh Puri, President World Non-Resident Nepali Association Bhaban Bhatta & many other political leaders. Visiting BJP Leader Vijay Jolly was honored by Ex-PM of Nepal Prachanda along with Rishi Dhamala – President – Reporters Club of Nepal. Jolly also presented Prachanda a book titled “Modi Hai to Mumkin Hai – NaMo Again – Mai Bhi Chowkidar”. Foreign Secretary of India, Shri Vijay Gokhale is paying an official visit to Nepal from 28-29 March 2019. Foreign Secretary met Mr. Shanker Das Bairagi, Foreign Secretary of Nepal on 28March 2019. He called on Prime Minister of Nepal, Rt. Hon’ble Mr. K.P. Sharma Oli and Foreign Minister of Nepal, H.E. Mr. Pradeep Kumar Gyawali. The two Foreign Secretaries reviewed all aspects of wide ranging bilateral partnership and exchanged views on regional and other issues of mutual interest. They expressed satisfaction at the substantial progress that has been achieved on bilateral projects and initiatives that were discussed and agreed to during the reciprocal visits of Prime Ministers of Nepal and India in April and May 2018. Pokharel Appointed CEO of Citizens Bank

Citizens Bank International has appointed Ganesh Raj Pokharel as the bank’s CEO. Pokharel had been serving as the acting CEO of the bank prior to his appointment as the CEO. He had been working in the capacity of the acting CEO following the expiry of the term of outgoing CEO Rajan Singh Bhandari. The 295th board meeting of the bank on Monday, March 25, took a decision to this effect. According to the bank, Pokharel has been appointed for a four-year term effective from April 1. Pokharel has been affiliated to the bank ever since its establishment and has held several important posts.
