Probe committee submits its report

Kathmandu – The Committee formed to probe into the murder case of Nirmala Panta of Kanchanpur district has submitted its report to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) today. The probe team coordinated by Hari Prasad Mainali met Minister of Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa and submitted its report. Nirmala Panta, 13, of Bhimduttanagar Municipality in Kanchanpur district was raped and murdered on July 26. Her body was found in a sugarcane farm the next day. A forensic report showed that she was raped and strangled to death. Earlier, MoHA on August 23 had formed a committee in coordination of Mainali to probe into the murder case of Panta after the role of police involved in the probe of rape and murder of Panta was found to be dubious and investigation did not progress any inch further. This committee formed thereafter had submitted its preliminary report to the MoHA on September 15. The report incorporated that the role of police involved in investigation of the case was deemed weak, the MoHA had suspended five police officials including two Deputy Superintended of Police (DSP) for gross negligence in investigation of into the case. The newly presented report has incorporated various matters including circumstances of the incident, and the weakness from the police officials in investigation. Kathmandu – Nepal have bagged silver medal towards the male team kumute event under the British Open International Karate Championship. Binod Shakya Gubhaju, Biplav Lal Shrestha and Sonam Lama of the Nepali team competed in the event held in Leister of Great Britain on Monday. Province 2 announces additional assistance to acid-attack victims

Janakpurdham – The province 2 government has expressed its sadness over the death of Samjhana Das of Chandranigapur of Rautahat who was severely injured in the in acid attack on September 11. The government has also announced additional compensation to the bereaved family. Chief Minister Lalbabu Raut announced to provide more Rs 300,000 to the Das family as the compensation and to assist in the treatment of Samjhana’s younger sister Susmita who suffered the acid burns along with her. Earlier, the province government had decided to provide Rs 100,000 to the victims’ family. The Chief Minister said he individually and the province government was very sad that the life of Samjhana could not be saved, expressing the commitment to guaranteeing better treatment of Susmita. He had already directed the authorities concerned to ensure stringent action against the guilty in the crime and take all necessary measures not to let such incidents reoccur in the future. Acid was thrown on Samjhana, 18 and Susmita,16, as two sisters were asleep at their home at around 11:00 pm on September 11 and the police have already arrested their neighbor Ram Babu Paswan, 45, on the charge of his involvement in the crime. Acid attack survivor Pariyar in critical condition

Chitwan – Although a survivor of acid attack in Chitwan, underwent successful surgery at Bharatpur Hospital, she is still in critical condition. Basanti Pariyar of Danda Bazaar at Kawasoti Municipality-16 of Chitwan district was attacked with acid by her neighbour, Bimal Shripali, on Monday morning evening while she was returning home from grocery. She was also stabbed by a sharp weapon. Senior surgeon Dr Suresh Pradhan shared they performed four hours surgery on Pariyar whose intestine was visible outwardly after cutting the stomach. Dr Pradhan further said that her rib was bruised. The 27-year-old Pariyar had also received critical wound on her cheeks and head. The team of doctors performed surgery on her stomach, chest, cheeks and head. Acid has burned her neck, chest and both hands. Pariyar has been admitted in the Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital. Police had immediately arrested the 37-year-old attacker. According to the District Police Officer, Nawalpur Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Leela Raj Lamicchane, acid attacker Sripali is escapist NA personnel.
