Murderer(s) of Panta to be booked: Home Minister Thapa

Kathmandu – Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa today committed to bringing the murderer(s) of 13-year-old Nirmala Panta of Kanchanpur who was raped and murdered, to justice. “Panta’s murderer(s) could be brought to justice. I assured all of this. Additional investigations are ongoing into the incident acting on the report submitted by the probe commission. The results will come out soon,” he said at a meeting of the Women, Children, Senior Citizens and Social Welfare under the Legislature-Parliament. He also said the government has accorded a high priority to ending all sorts of violence against women, while urging collective efforts and non-politicisation in VAW. “Any types of crimes that promote VOW like alcohol and illegal drugs related crimes and pornography should be ended. Immense potentialities for construction of waterways, says Minister Pun

Kathmandu – Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Barshaman Pun has said that there were immense potentialities for the construction of waterways in Koshi, Gandaki, Narayani and Karnali rivers. In today’s meeting of the Agriculture, Cooperatives and Natural Resources Committee under the House of Representatives, Minister Pun said that the government would start construction of waterways in Koshi and Narayani rivers within the current fiscal year to establish easy connectivity to seas. Committee to be active in minimizing incidents of VAW

Kathmandu – Women, Children and Social Welfare Committee of the Federal Parliament is to expedite the activities to control the incidents of gender based violence, criminal activities like rape that have increased in the country of late. Likewise, the committee shall carry out the monitoring and protection of children and senior citizens’ rights effectively. A meeting of the Committee held at Singh Durbar today drew the conclusion that the Committee would play active role in making the activities related to rights of women, children and senior citizens and social welfare council transparent and effective. Saying different incidents like rape, murder and violence against women have increased in the country in recent period, Committee President Nirudevi Pal said that the Committee would take special initiative to minimize such incidents and take legal action against the guilty. The Committee further said that it would drew attention of all bodies concerned for effective mobilization to minimize incidents of violence against women and would launch awareness campaign across the country coordinating with Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizen. HoR endorses international agreement for establishment of Peace University

Kathmandu – A meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) today endorsed the International Agreement for the Establishment of the University for Peace. Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa presented a proposal, on behalf of Minister for Foreign Affairs, Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, before the lower house session seeking the acceptance of the Agreement. In his replies to queries raised by the HoR members over the proposal, the Home Minister said peace was essential to see progress of the nation and people and the Agreement would be significant in achieving peace.
