Nepali Officers in India undergoing a tailor-made course on anti-corruption

 The Second batch of 21 officers of Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) of Nepal has started their 6 day training on ‘Prevention of Fraud, Bribery and Corruption’ at the Gujarat Forensic Sciences University (GFSU), Gandhinagar on 6 January 2020. This latest training for Nepali officers reaffirms India’s continuing commitment for capacity building of Nepali officers.The First batch of 21 CIAA officers of Nepal had received the similar training from December 16 to 21, 2019 at GFSU, Gandhinagar. They found the training,carried out by the experienced faculty members, was very good and fruitful. Itempowered them with new and useful ideas for carrying out investigations in Nepal. This is a tailor-made course specially designed at the request of Government of Nepal for a total of 42 CIAA officers. This course will strengthen the institutional capacity of CIAA to curb corrupt practices and enhance good governance in Nepal. The course mainly focuses on identifying factors for corruption, its impact on the economy and methodology for its detection and prevention. The Course would enhance skills of CIAA Officers for IT-based investigations, sharpen their analytical capabilities and help them learn new methodologies which would empower them to detect, prevent and prosecute corrupt and fraudulent individuals. Sugarcane farmers postpone agitation after 5-point agreement with government

Kathmandu, Jan 3 (RSS): The government and sugarcane farmers have reached an agreement that the sugar mill owners would pay the due amount to the farmers for their produce by January 21. With this, the farmers have postponed their agitation. The five-point agreement was made in the presence of Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supply, Lekharaj Bhatta, on Friday. As per the agreement, the Ministry will mediate for the guarantee of payment to the sugarcane farmers. The Ministry will write to the Ministry of Agriculture, and of Finance to immediately provide the grant amount the government has ensured to the farmers. Even a taskforce will be formed under coordination of a joint secretary at the Ministry having representatives from farmers and experts to study about the problems facing sugarcane farmers, so that they would be ensured prompt payment. Moreover, it was agreed that farmers would be provided seeds, tools and fertilizers to increase production of sugarcane and make the country self-reliant on sugar. In order to hear the complaints as of payment to cane farmers and sugar supply, the supply management division has been assigned as the contact office, according to Ministry Spokesperson, Dinesh Bhattarai. 57,000 plus tourists visit Mustang in 2019

Over 57,000 foreigners have visited Mustang district in 2019. According to chief of Jomsom Office of Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) Tulasi Dahal, a total of 57,565 foreigners arrived in Mustang in 2019. ACAP has been maintaining records of foreigners visiting Mustang district from its offices at Jomsom and Kagbeni. However, the number of tourists visiting Mustang district in 2019 has decreased compared to the previous year. In 2018, altogether 59,838 visitors had reached the Himalayan district. Ram Bahadur Gurung, a hotelier from Lho Mananthang, argued that change of the trekking route into the motorable road and fee hike in Upper Mustang are to blame for decrease in tourists arrival. Indian tourists make the largest portion for visiting Muktinath, a common religious destination for both the Hindus and Buddhists. Valley police chief promises to beef up security

The Chief of Metropolitan Police Office Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Nepal Police Bishowraj Pokharel has promised to leave no stone unturned to ensure good security situation in the valley. Snowfall, rain predicted across the country

The Meteorological Forecasting Division has predicted rain in most parts of the country today due to the effects of the westerly low pressure wind. The Division has also said that there is possibility of the snowfall in high hills and mountainous regions in the country. Meteorologist Prativa Manandhar said that moderate to heavy snowfall is likely in high hills and mountainous regions adding that there is the possibility of rain across the country. “The rain will not be regular. But, it will occur after some gaps,” she said. The Division said that the minimum temperature of Kathmandu was recorded 4.5 degree Celsius while the maximum temperature was 18.0 degree Celsius in the past 24 hours. Meanwhile, most of the districts in the far-west region have been affected following the snowfall coupled with rain. With the heavy snowfall, the temperature has gone down in Bajura, Doti, Dadeldhura, Bajhang, Baitadi and Darchula districts of the far-west.
