Rain, snowfall forecasted

The Meteorological Forecasting Division has forecasted rain and snowfall due to impacts of the westerly low pressure system. According to the Division, there is a possibility of light rainfall in the western parts as well as light to moderate snowfall in high-hilly areas of the western belt of the country. Meteorologist Manju Basi said that there is a possibility of rain and snowfall today as westerly low pressure system has developed from the western part of Nepal since Monday. Basi said, “Western part of the country would remain partial to fully cloudy and light to moderate snowfall is predicted at high-hilly areas of west and central part of the country today due to impacts of the system.” The sky at western part has now remained generally cloudy while skies at other parts are partly cloudy. Most of Tarai areas witnessed thick fog in the morning and the weather will become clear in the afternoon gradually, according to the Division. Western part as well as high-hilly areas of mid and eastern part of the country would remain generally cloudy to fully cloudy tonight. Sapkota has registered his candidacy for speaker post

Leader Agni Prasad Sapkota from the ruling Nepal Communist Party has registered his candidacy to the post of Speaker. Sapkota registered his candidacy this afternoon at Lhotse Hall of Federal parliament Building, New Baneshwor. Deputy-leader of the NCP Parliamentary Party, Subas Nembang, proposed the candidacy of Sapkota while NCP’s Chief Whip, Dev Gurung and lawmaker Onsari Gharti as well as lawmaker of Rastriya Janata Party, Laxman Lal Karna, seconded it. The Parliament Secretariat has set 11: 00 am to 2:00 pm as the deadline to register candidacy for the post of Speaker. The election is taking place on January 26. A Secretariat meeting of the NCP held on Sunday had decided to field NCP’s standing committee member Sapkota as the candidate of the Speaker post. Oli & Modi inaugurated Integrated Check Post at Biratnagar

Today, Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi and his Nepal counterpart Rt. Hon’ble Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, jointly inaugurated Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Biratnagar. They also witnessed progress of pro-earthquake rebuilding of 50,000 private houses in Gorkha and Nuwakot districts of Nepal. Both Prime Ministers carried out the inauguration via video-conferencing from the respective capitals. Indian NSA Shri Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Shri Vijay Gokhale and Ambassador of Nepal to India H.E. Mr. Nilambar Acharya attended the inaugurations from New Delhi and Mr Pradeep Gyawali, Foreign Minister, Mr Lekhraja Bhatta, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Supplies of Nepal and Dr Ajay Kumar, Charge d’Affaires, Embassy of India, Nepal witnessed the event from Kathmandu. India and Nepal have agreed to build ICPs along both sides of the border to facilitate two-way trade and movement of people. ICP Birgunj was inaugurated in April 2018 with the aim to facilitate and improve Nepal’s two-way trade with India and third countries. The work on the newly built ICP Biratnagar started in December 2016 and completed in October 2019. It has been built at a cost of NRs 2.24 billion by Government of India. The ICP puts in place systematically planned, properly interconnected and efficiently managed border check-posts at the authorized Jogbani Biratnagar border crossing point between the two countries. At least 33 tourists were injured when a tourist bus (Ba 1 Pa 783) and a truck (Lu 2 Kha 3305) collided at Ramnagar of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-1 today morning.
