New pace of development imperative: Chairman Timilsina

Chairman of the National Assembly, Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, has said the development pace needs to be intensified to implement the federalism effectively. Confusion with new system should not prolong, he stressed. Addressing a review meeting of district level coordination organized in Pokhara today, Chairman Timilsina however said expected achievement was yet to be made though the parliament had passed the budget early. The delayed process of development projects must not continue, he said, adding that old style of performance could not fulfill people’s aspiration for development. Chairman Timilsina underscored the need to adopt new thoughts to fit the federal system. He expressed worry over not reforming office management, budget and planning in view of the three-tier of governments. Online television operators express commitment to follow journalist code of conduct

Online television operators in Kathmandu Valley have expressed commitment to follow journalists’ code of conduct. Accepting that lots of anomalies were surfaced on online television, they however decided to frame a separate code of conduct from their side by making some amendment to the existing code. They expressed the determination for self-regulation and organised themselves through the first gathering of online television operators and interaction with experts. In the gathering organised in the federal capital on Friday, former president of the Federation of Nepali Journalists and founding chair of Freedom Forum, Taranath Dahal, suggested the online television operators to stand in favour of self regulation rather than state control. He said that it would be appropriate to online television to announce themselves to work as a responsible media and follow the journalistic code. Similarly, another former president of FNJ and editor of Centre for Investigative Journalism, Shiva Gaunle, expressed the view that anomalies on online television sector would decrease automatically if online televisions become responsible towards their broadcasted materials. He added that future of online televisions is bright if they pay attention on sentiments of responsible journalism. HURPES concerned over letting off powerful ones in Lalita land scam

The Human Rights and Peace Society (HURPES) has expressed severe concern over letting off those in the main responsibility in connection with the Lalita Niwas land scam. The HURPES said it was unfortunate to spare those in power despite filing corruption case against 175 persons including former Deputy Prime Minister Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar by the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA). Chairman of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said the recently concluded central committee meeting of the party was a new fusion of collectivism and integration. No military issues in MCC: leader Dr Mahat

Nepali Congress leader and former finance minister Dr Ramsharan Mahat has said MCC is purely a financial project, and has no military issues in it. Speaking at an interaction organized by Nepal Press Union Sunsari chapter here Friday, Dr Mahat reminded, ”MCC was formed in 2004 and was passed by the American Congress to assist least developed countries for building good governance, transparency, open economy, civil rights, press freedom.” Also the central committee member of Nepali Congress, he added that Nepal was selected for this programme in 2014.
