Budhi Gandaki Hydel to be constructed soon: NCP Chair Dahal

Dhading, Feb 14: Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has assured that the construction works of the Budhi Gandaki Hydropower Project would be accelerated soon. Inaugurating the 7th Dhading Festival at Dhadingbesi on Friday, leader Dahal shared that the compensation was already distributed for the acquisition of private land lying in the project area, which would help intensify construction pace. The 1200-megawatt- hydro power project would bring a sweeping change in the lives of people in Dhanding and Gorkha districts, Dahal claimed, informing that discussion was also held concerning rehabilitation of those displaced by the hydel. According to him, the government was effortful to build a parallel highway in Trishuli and Marsyangdi as an alternative to the Prithivi Highway. He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to construct railways connecting Lhasa in China to Kathmandu, Pokhara and Lumbini. The former Prime Minister was of view that Nepal would only inch towards realization of prosperity if the foreign investment was attracted to the country. He however expressed his happiness that the private sector in the country was very excited with the current situation of the country. There are altogether 155 stalls in the festival. Foreign investment of Rs 3,000 billion committed in six months: Minister Dr Khatiwada

Finance Minister Dr Yubaraj Khatiwada has said Nepal got the commitment of Rs 3,000 billion as foreign investment in the six months of the current fiscal year. The investment would be made in the industrial sector, he said while inaugurating the Birat Expo here Friday. The Expo is the international exhibition of agricultural and industrial products, which continue for eight days. The liberal economic policy and favourable atmosphere would attract foreign investment, which would contribute to people’s aspiration for prosperity, he asserted. According to him, 3,000 MW electricity would be produced in the Arun Valley in coming three years, for which, Rs 100 billion investment was brought in and commitment made of additional Rs 200 billion. The industrial sectors would reap huge benefits from it, he made it clear. The Minister further said government has no intention at all to discourage industrialists. He requested the industrialists to opt for new products in view of the demand from international markets. Minister for State for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Motilal Dugad has shared that the government was successful to resume the export of palm oil to India. Nepal Communist Party chair and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on Thursday inaugurated the newly-constructed ‘Umbrella Street’ at Bharatpur metropolis-22, Patihani. On the occasion, he expressed his confidence that the street would further help in the development and expansion of tourism in Patihani. Call to bring regulation on reproductive health right

Various stakeholders have drawn concern over the withered implementation of Safe Motherhood and Reproductive Health Right Act-2075 due to delay in introducing its regulation. At a programme organized by Forum for Women, Law and Development on Thursday, it was shared that the constitutionally-enshrined obligation of formulating law within three years of its proclamation has not been implemented in absence of regulation. The Act was endorsed by both the parliaments (House of Representatives and National Assembly) on 18 September 2018. On the occasion, Minster of State for Health and Population Nawaraj Raut pledged to take initiative to clear decks in the formulation of regulation. He claimed that the government has framed several laws required for the implementation of the constitution. Director for Department of Health Service, Family Welfare Section Dr Bhim Singh Tingkari shared that the regulation was being drafted. ‘Institutional and policy reforms inevitable in TVET sector’

Policy-makers, experts and practitioners of technical vocational education and training (TVET) have highlighted the need of its reforms in terms of institutions, policy and programme so as to broaden its discernible contributions to the country’s development. The experts also called for collaboration and co-creation with private sector in the operation and management of TVET sector considering their wider contributions to the creation of employment opportunities as well as putting measures to bridge gap in production of skilled work force and job market needs. At a national seminar ‘Technical and vocational education and training: reform initiatives and future strategies’ jointly organized by Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and Kathmandu University School of Education (KUSOED) in the capital on Friday, Minster for Education Giriraj Mani Pokharel insisted that the country should adopt the paradigm for linking education to skills, skills to production and production to prosperity. Underlining the need of multi-sector discussion on wider reforms in education, he called for concerned actors and stakeholders to engage in framing and finalizing three separate bills to manage higher education, technical and vocational education and national education.
