There is no ill intention involved in Matatirtha land transfer, former PM Bhattarai clarifies

Socialist Party’s federal council chairman and former Prime Minister, Dr Baburam Bhattarai has made it clear that there was no ill motive in the decision made by the government under his leadership to register the land in Matatirtha, Mahadevsthan, Satungal, Ichangu among other areas. He argued that rather the decision to register the land which was under the tenancy of the tenants for long is in favour of the landless and the real tillers and peasants. This land was in the name of the current Nepal Trust. “Although the land distributed by then King Mahendra by making the poor peasants as the tillers as per the ‘Farmais Birta’ practice was later brought under Nepal Trust ownership, it did not belong to the former royal family. Hence, the then Council of Ministers made a policy decision to have that land registered in the name of the real tillers,” the former Prime Minister told a session of the House of Representatives today. NA beacon of hope for Nepali citizens: CoAS Thapa

Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Purnachandra Thapa has asserted that the Nepal Army (NA) was the beacon of hope for the citizens and an embodiment of national unity. Inaugurating a summit organized by NA for its former servicemen at Ramnagar Barracks in Butwal today, CoAS Thapa said that NA was constitutionally enshrined with the responsibility to keep the national unity intact. “The issues relating to national unity and identity seem to be in shadow in the latest scenario, which tend to stave off national security, development and prosperity for the country. We Nepalis must be aware of it,” viewed the CoAS. According to him, the NA has emphasized increasing ex-army personnel’s access to education and health to ensure them their social recognition and economic development. Also speaking at the event, Lieutenant General Gaurav Tandul expressed his confidence that the summit would further bring closer the serving army personnel and former ones. On the occasion, retired Major General Padam Bilas Karki, who is currently serving as the CEO of the Army Welfare Fund, shed light on the undertakings of the Fund. HoR passes bill bringing uniformity in various universities’ Acts

The government has brought a bill to maintain uniformity in the Acts related to several universities. In this connection, the House of Representatives today passed the ‘Bill Amending Some Nepal Acts Related to Education, 2076’. Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Giriraj Mani Pokharel informed the House that the bill has been brought to sort out several topics, contained in the related Act, which are inconsistent in reference to before and after 2006. The Education Minister presented a proposal in the House seeking passage of the bill. The meeting passed the bill. The bill was brought in 2075 BS. The bill has been re-introduced after making some revisions in it following discussions in the National Assembly and the House of Representatives. Responding to the questions raised by lawmakers in course of the discussions on the principles of the bill, Minister Pokharel argued that the bill was necessitated to have uniformity by making the various past Acts in consistent with the constitution. “There is a need to maintain uniformity regarding the topic of the Acts related to various universities and systematize the fundamental rights related topics in the constitution. Bagmati State to ensure settlement for ethnic, marginalized communities

The Bagmati State has forwarded the process to ensure settlement to the ethnic communities facing extinction. The Ministry of Physical Development and Planning of Bagmati State has allocated Rs 480 million for the housing to Raute, Chepang, Bote, Majhi, and Pahari communities of Makwanpur and Chitwan districts. As many as 650 households from Makwanpur and 733 from Chitwan would be provided such facility. Even the Dalit community would be provided housing. The cost for the construction of each house is estimated Rs 350 thousand. The earthquake resistant house will have two rooms each. Planning Officer at the Ministry, Manoj Lamichhane, informed that the construction of the houses would complete by next fiscal year, while the construction process is forwarded this year. To get the house by the government, the people from the selected marginalized communities should submit the documents as per the criteria issued by the office under the ministry. The Chepang and Bankariya people facing extinction have been elated over the government decision. Meanwhile, the State government has decided to intensify the construction of 47 police posts. Country in new era: CM Rai

Chief Minister Sherdhan Rai has said Nepal entered new era with the adoption of federalism and new constitution. Inaugurating the Bahanepokhari festival 2076 here Tuesday, CM Rai argued that Nepal got the strongest and stable government for the first time in history. “It is the time for peace, political stability, good governance and prosperity,” he said, adding that time has come for all to devote to country’s development.  The CM reminded that the governments in the past were short-lived, and that has now come to an end.
