NCP chair Oli calls for unity

Prime Minister and Nepal Communist Party Chair KP Sharma Oli has appealed to party workers to join hands against the organised efforts being made to give a bad name to the party and leadership. The recent audio tape scam is aimed at character assassination of the party, government and its leaders. Speaking at a Bagmati State level training programme for the NCP cadres here today, he said the conduct and norms of a communist party cannot be corrupt, but if anyone has become so, will be punished. Referring to the resignation by then Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Banskota, he said the audio tape said to be that of Baskota has not been verified yet. “Even the Swiss embassy has denied having a representative, while he has been saying that it’s not his voice. So, there is no evidence relating to the authenticity of the tape, and so the scam will not be proved,” the Prime Minister said. He however said that Baskota would face action if proved guilty. Prime Minister Oli said the complaint filed against him over the same issue would be proved to be futile. Stating that the party was following the right policy and had strong and extensive organisation, the NCP chair said the only lacking was their publicity. Govt passes proposal to award 13th SAG winners

The government has endorsed the proposal to award winners of the recently held 13th South Asian Games. The Cabinet meeting passed the proposal to amend the sports award and honour procedure (first amendment) put forward by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, said the government’s Spokesperson and Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada at a regular press conference organised here on Thursday to brief government’s decisions. Following this, the way to award SAG winners has opened. According to the amended procedure, SAG gold medal winners will get Rs 900,000 each, silver winners Rs 600,000 and bronze winners Rs 300,000. Those who have won more than one gold medals will receive Rs 1. 1 million for each medal. Swimmer Gaurika Singh won four gold medals in the 13th SAG, and Taekwondo player Ayesha Shakya and karate player Mande Kaji Shrestha won two each. Similarly, a group winning gold medal in the SAG will receive Rs 500,000 each person, silver medal winners Rs 300,000 each and bronze winners Rs 200,000 each. Coaches of those players winning a gold medal will receive Rs 500,000 each. Nepal bagged a total of 206 medals in the SAG (51 gold, 60 silver and 95 bronze). Dispute, debate normal in party until achievement of communism: Chairman Dahal

Chairman of Nepal Communist Party (NCP), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said the debate and discussion in party are normal till the achievement of communism. The party should accept debate and struggles, he stressed at an orientation programme organized by the party’s Bagmati State committee. “Some of us can imagine peace, politeness and harmony among leaders and cadres,” he said, adding, “The day the party eliminates disputes that is what the communism is.” He argued that people’s aspiration was respected with party unity and their hope would not be dampened. Chairman Dahal reminded, “Communist party is not a pond but a murmuring river.” The party unity was possible with the integration of thoughts, process and leadership. Mithila Culture Study Centre being constructed

Construction of the Mithila Culture Study Centre has been started here. The Centre will feature the cultural heritage of all communities in Mithila. The building has been designed including the ‘abode of the deities’ with the miniature painting of all the gods and goddesses. It reflects the identity and culture of the Mithila region. The Centre building is being constructed at Janakpurdham Sub-metropolitan City-7 by the Maithil Brahman Mahasabha. The plan is to construct the structure within two years, Mahasabha president Bhagawan Jha said. According to him, the Centre would have a meeting hall on the first floor, the abode of the deities in the second floor, the Mithila museum in the third floor, library and an auditorium in the fourth floor while the fifth and sixth floor would have residential rooms. The building will be constructed at a total cost of Rs 110 million. Janakpur Sub-metropolitan City will contribute Rs 500 thousand while the rest of the cost would be met through donation. KUKL starts exploring water sources and their conservation

The Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL) has started looking for sources of water in the Kathmandu Valley and taking measures for their conservation. KUKL, the water utility body responsible for distribution of drinking water in the Kathmandu Valley, has started paying attention to the conservation of the already existing water sources in the Valley even as preparations for bringing water from the Melamchi River to the Valley are underway. The Melamchi Water Supply Project which will pump water from the Melamchi River in Sindhupalchowk district and supply that in the Kathmandu Valley, is in the final phase of construction. The much-awaited Project is believed to supply water to the Valley which is facing an acute shortage of water to meet the growing needs of the rapidly increasing population. It is said the first phase of the Project will be completed by June and would be able to supply water pumped from the Melamchi River in Kathmandu At the same time KUKL has focused its attention to the conservation of the water sources in the Valley along with the systematic distribution of the water through the Melamchi Water Supply Project. KUKL has also started taking measures to increase the volume of water supply in the Kathmandu Valley.
