Distribution of water increases with increased production in Kathmandu Valley

Distribution of water has been increased in the Kathmandu Valley with the increase in its production. Ninety million litres water is produced daily in the valley during the dry season. Water was supplied in a gap of nine days during the dry season. Now water is being supplied in interval of three or four days. Similarly, water is being distributed according to its availability in public reservoir and tap. Production of water has increased in this season as water is also collected from other sources as well. The Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL), the water utility body responsible for supply of water in the Valley, said some old tube wells have been repaired and some new ones installed this year, adding 20 million litres water daily. “At present we are producing 170 million litres water on a daily basis. Production of water would be in excess due also to rainfall,” KUKL executive director Milan Shakya said. KUKL has been collecting water from various sources and supplying it. INLS establishes National Poet Madhav Ghimire Award

The International Nepali Literary Society (INLS) has instituted the ‘National Poet Madhav Ghimire Award’. A meeting of the INLS Board of Trustees on August 19 decided to set up the award in the memory of national poet Ghimire. The award would be provided to the best poetry published in Nepali literature. According to INLS treasurer Ram Lama ‘Avinashi’, the award carries a purse of two thousand US dollars. A directive and guideline for the award is being prepared. The award would be provided for the first time on the occasion of Mahakavi Devkota Birth Anniversary in 2021. Prohibitory order enforced in Kathmandu Valley from today: Even people’s mobility is restricted

Prohibitory orders have been enforced in all three districts of the Kathmandu Valley from today in order to contain the spread of coronavirus. According to the decision of the meeting of Chief District Officers and district-based security chiefs of three districts on Tuesday, the orders have come into enforcement from 12.00 last night to impose a ban on the activities excluding those related to the most essentials. The orders have already come to force as per the decision according to the Police Headquarters.   The enforcement would prevail up to 12.00 pm on 26 August. Even the people’s mobility has been restricted for general purposes apart from the most essentials. Kathmandu CDO Janak Raj Dahal shared that the orders have been enforced with the spike in the coronavirus cases and its subsequent threats to public health. The orders have been enforced as per the Infectious Disease Act-2020 BS Clause 2 and the Local Administration Act-2028 Clause 6(3). No one is allowed to go out of the home for the activities except for the purchase of medicines and other most essential consumptive goods and services, the Kathmandu district administration office said. Lidi landslide: Additional three dead bodies recovered

Three additional dead bodies were recovered from the debris of the landslide occurred in Jugal rural municipality-2, Lidi on Friday morning. Earlier, 25 dead bodies have been already recovered while 11 are still at large in the massive landslide. As many as 39 people went missing in the disaster.   Police Inspector of the Area Police Office Jalbire Hari Bhattarai shared that dead body of a child and two women were recovered this morning. They were identified as five-year-old Sanukanchha Dong and Jibirani Dong, 42, and Lalita Dong, 18. With this, the death toll from the disaster has reached 28. Among the dead bodies identified so far, 15 are male and 13 are female. 681 new cases of coronavirus, 159 in Kathmandu

A total of 681 new cases of coronavirus have been recorded in the last 24 hours in the country. Among them, 159 are from the Kathmandu Valley alone. Among the total infection, 465 are male and 216 female. Spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr Jageshwor Gautam, has informed that Kathmandu district recorded 134 new cases of coronavirus while Lalitpur 17 and Bhaktapur eight on Wednesday. He shared this information at a press meet. Total 11,522 persons were tested via PCR methods. So far, 5,54,788 persons have been tested across the country. Across the country, 120 persons got recovery in the last 24 hours. With this, number of those getting full recovery has reached 17,700. State-wise categorization puts the infection- 1,060 in State-1; 2,037 in State-2; 2,679 in Bagmati State; 4,288 in Gandaki State; 838 in State-5; 245 in Karnali State; and 830 in Sudurpaschim State. As many as 113 persons among the infected ones are receiving treatment at ICU. Six persons die In the last 24 hours, six persons died of coronavirus in various parts of the country. With the latest fatality, the death toll has reached 120.
