Fluid landslide disrupts Narayangarh-Muglin road

The continuous fluid landslide has obstructed the Narayangarh-Muglin road section again. Police said that the road traffic has been disrupted with no let-up in the landslide at Ichhakamana rural municipality-6, Charkilo following the incessant rain. Police Inspector of the Area Police Office Muglin Kanchan Tamang shared that the traffic along the road section has been disrupted since 6.00 am this morning due to recurrent flow of fluid. It was difficult to remove fluid debris from the road due to continuous rainfall through dozer was already available there to do so, Inspector Tamang added. Road traffic would be made smooth after clearing off the road following the let-up of rain. “The fluid mudslide is continually taking place”, he said, adding that it may take a couple of hours to remove the debris but it has not yet started due to torrential rain....

Raped adolescent girl commits suicide after justice denied

An adolescent raped girl has committed suicide in Saptari after she did not get justice. The 17-year-old adolescent of Dakneswori municipality-7, Lalitpur committed suicide on Tuesday after the villagers warned and stopped her registering complaint against the rapists at the police office, said the Saptari Police. Rape survivor’s mother shared that the girl who went to see irrigation outreach at paddy field on Monday morning was gang raped. She further noted that her daughter was caught in big stress following some villagers preventing the survivors from approaching the police office against four rapists. The adolescent girl committed suicide after she could tolerate the decision of the village leaders, said Police Inspector of the District Police Office Saptari Santosh Khadka, who reached the incident site. The neighbours shared that a meeting of 8-10 people of the local Mandal community had stopped the rape survivor and her mother from knocking the door of the police office and decided to have compensated from the rape accused. Police Inspector Khadka said there used to be problems in investigating and prosecuting such incidents due to the tendency of hiding sensitive crimes. 6.0 magnitude aftershock hits Sindhupalchowk

An aftershock measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale with its epicentre around Ramche in Sindhupalchowk was recorded. The National Seismological Centre said that the aftershock occurred at 5.19 this morning. Centre’s earthquake expert Lokbijaya Adhikari told that the current jolt was not a new one but an aftershock of the Gorkha Earthquake (7.6 magnitude). The early morning aftershock heavily rocked the areas around the federal capital Kathmandu. A huge number of people had rushed out screaming from homes in the areas including Lokanthali, Balkot and Thimi of Bhaktapur. More than 550 aftershocks measuring 4.0 on the Richter Scale had occurred so far following the 2015 Gorkha Earthquake, the centre said....

Call to open cultural sites

The World Hindu Federation has expressed concern over the closure of the temple, shrines and other religious sites for the past six months. It has demanded that the sites be opened by maintaining social distancing. Issuing a statement on Friday, the Federation Chair Ram Chandra Adhikari and General Secretary Ganesh Prasad Neupane has expressed concern over the government’s decision to open other sectors by maintaining social distancing but shutting down the temples, shrines and monasteries. It may be noted that the major religious sites including Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, Swayambhunath and other shrines remain closed since March. Though the Pashupati Area Development Trust developed a protocol to open the Pashupati temple by following physical distancing, the government has not allowed opening of the temple....
