KATHMANDU: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that he was honored to visit Lumbini, the birthplace of Siddharth Gautam Buddha. In a statement issued on Sunday regarding his visit to Nepal, he said that it was an honor to visit Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha. “I am honored to follow in the footsteps of millions of Indians to pay homage to the sacred site of the birthplace of Lord Buddha,” the statement said. Modi is coming to Nepal on the occasion of Budva Purnima (Jayanti), which falls today at the invitation of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. In Nepal, he is said to be going directly to Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha. Kathmandu – Nabil Bank and Gateway Payment Services Pvt. Ltd  has tie up a business agreement. The bank on Wednesday partnered with Gateway Payments to approve its mobile-based real-time payment system, Unified Payment Interface (UPI) in Nepal. The agreement has been signed by Nil Keshari Shah, Chief Executive Officer of the Bank and Rajesh Prasad Manandhar, Chief Executive Officer of Gateway Payment Services. The partnership will enable Nabil Bank’s mobile banking users to make secure and seamless payments at merchant stores across India. Similarly, merchants affiliated and capable of Nabil UPI QR will be able to accept payments from Indian tourists using UPI based mobile apps including PhonePay, Google Pay, and Paytm. UPI is a real-time payment system developed by the National Payments Corporation of India to facilitate interbank and cross-border transactions. The partnership is believed to enable millions of Nepalese and Indians who travel across the border each year to pay for health, education and business services without having to make hassle-free payments using GX-based mobile apps in stores and merchant stores in both countries. Kathmandu: Indian Ambassador to Nepal Vinay Mohan Kwatra has been appointed as India’s Foreign Secretary. Quatra was appointed foreign secretary by the Indian government on Sunday. Kwatra was appointed Indian Ambassador to Nepal on January 30, 2020. Kwatra, who accompanied Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on his visit to India as ambassador, became foreign secretary the day after the visit ended. He has previously worked in the Indian Ministry of External Affairs. He will replace Harsh Shringala, the current Foreign Secretary.
