Lalitpur- The new Shree Napichandra Mahavihar building in Lalitpur has been inaugurated with the support of the Government of India.

Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava and Lalitpur Municipal Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan jointly inaugurated the newly constructed building of Mahavihar under the grant provided by the Government of India for the reconstruction of cultural heritage areas of Nepal.

Buddhiraj Bajracharya, President of Lalitpur Development Society, representatives of the local community, representatives of the project management consultant as well as the officials of Nepal Government and Indian Embassy were also present in the ceremony.

This project was built under the post-earthquake reconstruction grant provided by the Government of India for the reconstruction of cultural heritage areas of Nepal.

The Central Project Implementation Unit 9 Buildings and Housing 0 of the Urban Development and Building Construction Department of the Government of Nepal has completed the building construction project of Napichandar Mahavihar, which was damaged by the devastating earthquake of 2072, with the help of the Government of India.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ambassador Srivastava discussed various aspects of development cooperation between India and Nepal and mentioned that this cooperation is an important aspect of bilateral partnership between the two countries. At the opening ceremony, Mayor Maharjan thanked the Government of India for supporting Lalitpar as well as Nepal’s cultural project in general.

In the ceremony, it was emphasized that the historical cultural similarities and heritage of India and Nepal need to be preserved for our future generations. India has also worked together with Nepal for the restoration of cultural heritage areas in the past. It is said that this handshake will strengthen the friendly relationship between us and it will also reflect our common culture.

Accordingly, the Government of India has committed to work for the protection of 28 cultural heritage sites in seven districts of Nepal. In addition, under the post-earthquake reconstruction grant, the Government of India has supported the reconstruction of 50,000 private homes in Gorkha and Nuwakot districts, 71 educational institutions in eight districts, and 132 health facilities in ten districts.
