India Supports Construction of New School Building in Kalikot

Kalikot – The foundation stone for the construction of a new building for Shree Janajyoti Secondary School in Sannitriveni Rural Municipality-4, Kalikot District, was laid on Thursday under the Government of India’s High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) initiative.

The school infrastructure project is being developed with financial assistance of approximately NPR 93 million from the Government of India. The project will be implemented through Sannitriveni Rural Municipality and marks the first HICDP project in Kalikot District.

Local representatives, including the Chairman of Sannitriveni Rural Municipality, welcomed India’s continued support for Nepal’s development efforts. They expressed confidence that the new school building would significantly improve educational facilities and create a better learning environment for students and teachers in the region.

In a video message, Naveen Srivastava, Ambassador of India to Nepal, extended his best wishes to all stakeholders involved in the project. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to working closely with the Government and people of Nepal to promote shared growth, prosperity, and sustainable development.

According to the Embassy of India, nearly 600 High Impact Community Development Projects have been undertaken across Nepal since the programme’s inception, covering all seven provinces and 74 districts. Among them, 18 projects have been implemented in Karnali Province across various sectors.

India has also provided substantial support to the health and education sectors in Karnali Province through the donation of 56 ambulances and 14 school buses. In Kalikot District alone, institutions have received four ambulances and two school buses to strengthen local services.

The Embassy stated that the project reflects the strong and enduring partnership between Nepal and India. As close neighbours, the two countries continue to cooperate in a wide range of sectors, with infrastructure development remaining a key area of collaboration.

The construction of the new school building is expected to enhance educational opportunities for local students and contribute to the overall socio-economic development of Kalikot District and the wider Karnali Province.
