Naya Shakti leader found dead

Surkhet – The police found a Naya Shakti Party leader dead in the Jugad river in Khalanga bazaar, Jumla on Sunday night. The deceased has been identified as Radha Krishna Budthapa, 43, of Chandannath Municipality-2. He was coordinator of Naya Shakti, Jumla. A police patrol team saw during their night duty a stranded motorcycle with headlight flashing dim light on the river banks leading to the finding of Budhthapa lying dead. “Budthapa had a snack at Sunlight Hotel in Jumla together with his friend Angal Lama. They took photos and sang songs before picking a fight over a dispute,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Prakash KC said quoting the hotel owner Khadgajit Rokaya. They were intervened later and Lama was taken to his home. “Upon return after taking Lama to his home, Budthapa was not there in the hotel,” said KC. Kidnapped boy murdered: Two kidnappers killed in police action

Bhaktapur – A boy, who was kidnapped from Town Planning, Kandaghari, of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-32 on Sunday evening, has been found murdered this afternoon. Senior Superintendent of Police at the Metropolitan Crime Division, Dhiraj Pratap Singh, said that two kidnappers, who abducted and murdered the boy, were also killed in police encounter at Suryabinayak jungle, Bhaktapur. The kidnappers—Ajay Tamang, 24, of Nuwakot district, and Gopal Tamang of Sindhupalchowk district, were killed in police encounter. A team under the leadership of Deputy Superintendent of Police, Rugam Kunwar, from the Division was deployed in search of the kidnapped boy. Nishan Khadka, 11, was abducted at 6:00 pm on Sunday from an eatery run by his mother, Chameli Khadka of Sindhupalchowk and he was found murdered at Madhyapurthimi municipality-7 this afternoon. The abductors had tied the throat and stuffed a handkerchief in the mouth of the boy, police said. Separate five teams from the Division had launched a search on information that the abductors had been hiding in the Suryabinayak forest. The fighting between the kidnappers and the police took place near the forest at the Ganesh Temple in Suryabinayak Municipality-8 leading to Pilot Baba Ashram. “The encounter between the abductors and the police took place in the forest. Kathmandu –  Nepali National Cricket Team, which played historical ODI cricket series against Netherlands, has returned home this morning. Talking to media persons at Tribhuvan International Airport, Captain Paras Khadka said that Nepal’s performance was good in the one-day series with Netherlands. He expressed the belief that they would perform very well in the Asia Cup as it was the upcoming mission of Nepali cricket team. Military exercise involving top brass of 20 countries commences

Kathmandu – An exercise of high-ranking military officials from 20 countries has started here aimed at how the information flow could be systematised maintaining contact with multi-national armies while deploying in humanitarian rescue at times of disaster. The exercise is organised by the Nepalese Army with cooperation of the US Army’s Pacific Command. Theoretical and practical exercises would be conducted on making the contact and coordination in humanitarian works among the multi-national forces effective at times of disaster through the telecommunication signals operated by the armies of each country. Two hundred and seventy five soldiers up to the rank of Major General from various countries are participating in the exercise. It is believed that this kind of exercise would contribute a lot towards updating the telecommunications used by the armies in rendering the responsibility and humanitarian rescue works systematised during deployment in the incidents of big natural disasters such as the tsunami that struck Japan in 2005. The national armies of Nepal, Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Fiji, France, Indonesia, Japan, Mongolia, Maldives, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Togo, Vietnam, South Korea, Papua New Guinea and America are taking part in the 14-day-long exercise. 16 hurt in Parbat bus plunge

Parbat – At least 16 people were injured, six seriously, when a passenger bus slid off the road and fell some 30 meters at Betani of Modi Rural Municipality-6 in the district along the Pokhara-Baglung road today morning. Of the injured, six in serious condition have been referred to Pokhara-based Gandaki Zonal Hospital, while the remaining are receiving treatment at the district hospital, said Inspector Suraj Khatri.
