Shutdown affects life

Ilam – Normal life has been affected in nine eastern districts including Ilam due to shutdown. Rastriya Janamukti Party, Federal Limbuwan Party Nepal, Limbuwan National Revolutionary Party and Kochila Unity Front have enforced the shutdown. Issuing a press release, the Limbuwan Janata Party Nepal, Khambuwan Mukti Morcha Sanghiyabadi, Federal Khambuwan Loktantrik Party among others had expressed solidarity for the agitation. The shutdown has been enforced in protest of the failure of the constitution to empower ethnic groups, classes, gender and communities with the rights. They have also demanded the Province-1 to be named Kirant-Limbuwan-Khambuwan, stated an appeal issued by the agitating parties. Vehicular movement along Hetauda-Kulekhani road obstructed

Hetauda – Vehicular movement has been obstructed along Hetauda-Kulekhani road section from Monday night due to landslide occurred at Mahalaxmi cliff of Indrasarobar rural municipality-6 following incessant rainfall. Chief District Officer of Makawanpur, Asman Tamang, told Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) that efforts are underway to remove the landslide debris and to resume vehicular movement towards Hetauda to Kathmandu. Similarly, landslip occurred at Sisneri cliff along Madan Bhandari highway at Indrasarobar rural municipality-3 has disrupted transport service towards Hetauda to Kathmandu from Monday night. Kathmandu – The main opposition party in parliament, Nepali Congress, is convening a meeting of its central working committee today to discuss the contemporary political situation. The meeting has been called for 3 pm at the party’s central office in Sanepa, Lalitpur. The meeting shall also deliberate on internal topics of the party, party spokesman Bishwa Prakash Sharma said. Green campaign kicks off in the hottest city of the country

Nepalgunj – The local Municipality in Nepalgunj has initiated a Green Campaign to maintain balance in the rising temperature and environmental degradation due to the repercussions of the wanton urbanization. Nepalgunj is of the hottest city repute in the country where the highest temperature generally shoots up above 40 degrees Celsius in summer. According to the Mayor of Nepalgunj Municipality, Dr Dhawal Shumsher Rana, saplings of various trees soaking pollutants in its leaves would be planted along the roadside in every street in the Municipality in coordination with the local organizations. Nepalgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Green Club Nepal, B Group among others have been coordinating efforts with the Municipality for the campaign. The campaign aims to transform Nepalgunj into a Green City within four years, said Mayor Rana, adding that alternatives would be sought for planting saplings in the narrow roads in the Municipality. Saplings were planted alongside the road stretching from Ranjha to Jamunaha in the Nepalgunj-Surkhet road section in the first phase. Wanton urbanization, rapid population growth, growing populations and the like have been contributing to the rise in the temperature in the City. Mayor Shakya bills City Conference successful

Kathmandu – Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Bidya Sundar Shakya, has said utmost initiatives would be taken to best utilise the labour, skills and capital earned by the Nepalis abroad, into the country. Mayor Shakya, who is in Japan in course of attending the Asia Pacific City Conference, said this in discussion with the Nepali diaspora. The KMC mayor is on visit to Japan at the special invitation of the Fukuoaka City mayor Takashima. Mayor Shakya participated in the City Conference which discussed issues related to management of cities and related challenges.
