Youth doctors gear up to establish advanced cancer center

Ramgopal, Mahottari – People of Ramgopal Municipality in Mahottari, a district in the Province 2, are likely to get all services relating to cancer within their locality. A cancer center (hospital) has come into operation through combined efforts among the Binayatara Foundation America, Binayatara Cancer Trust Nepal and the Municipality with the objective of ensuring locals’ access to ‘quality’ health services. Municipality mayor Ashok Kumar Mandal, deputy mayor Sita Devi and senior oncologist and surgeon Rakesh Shah inaugurated the center services recently. The center claims that its services especially for those related to cancer are of quality and they are available at an affordable price, according to Dr Shah. Currently, the facility avails in-patient department, pathology and radiology services at its rented building and surgery, chemotherapy and other sorts of services will be added gradually. The center is considered as the first cancer facility in the entire province. Earlier, either Chitwan or Dharan was the nearest accessible location for treatment for cancer patients in the district and from its neighbouring districts Siraha, Saptari and Dhanusha . Especially oncologists Dr Binay Shah and Dr Rakesh worked together to materalise the people’s dream of getting a cancer treatment facility at their hometown and its services will be upgraded gradually. UN regional centre for peace and disarmament marks 10th anniversary

Kathmandu – The United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific (UNRCPD) organized an event for the youth on peace and disarmament education here today on the occasion of its 10th anniversary and in celebration of the International Day of Youth. Established by the UN General Assemble in 1987, the centre is operating in Kathmandu since August 2008. An event was held at the UN House, had participation from high school and university students from Kathmandu. Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the United Nations addressed the event. Staff from UNRCPD presented on how the Centre’s activities assist States from Asia and the Pacific to achieve their peace, security, and disarmament goals, the UNRCPD stated in a press release. The recently launched Agenda for Disarmament “Securing Our Common Future”, by the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, underlines the need for more educational opportunities to empower young people for disarmament. Radio Nepal goes global

Kathmandu –  Radio Nepal, the state broadcaster, has gone global with the launching of its mobile app today. Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Banskota launched the app that can be used in android version of mobile phone amidst a function held at the Radio Nepal in Singha Durbar. Addressing the function, Minister Banskota expressed the belief that Radio Nepal’s mobile app would prove helpful in making public the government’s official matters. “Radio Nepal should disseminate positive messages not negative ones. Misleading issues are short-lived. This institution represents the nation. Therefore, it should disseminate the right information of all and not only that of the government,” the Minister said. Radio Nepal’s executive director Suresh Kumar Karki said the mobile apps is mainly useful for those who have no access to Radio Nepal’s transmission services. But an access to internet service is necessary to use the apps where audio clips dating three years back are available. Presently, the Radio Nepal provides its services in 21 languages and there are demands for increasing languages from some provinces. Deputy executive director Ashok Baskota said the mobile apps was developed at a cost of Rs 500,000. Finance Minister claims government is on mission to end absolute poverty

Kathmandu – Finance Minister Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada has said a campaign would be started to end the absolute poverty by the coming three to four years. The Finance Minister said this while addressing to the inaugural programme of a workshop on micro finance organised by the Micro finance Association Nepal here today. He said the government would start the campaign to end this sort of poverty linking poverty with production. “We are linking poverty with production and skills. We will move ahead on the path of prosperity by ending the absolute poverty,” Finance Minister Khatiwada asserted. He called on the micro finance institutions to contribute towards ending poverty working together with the local levels, urging them to invest in small businesses to raise the living standard of the poor. He suggested the micro finance institutions to invest in entrepreneurship development and contribute to women empwerment. Stating that more than 70 per cent of the population of the country is poor and belong to small family, Finance Minister Khatiwada stressed on the need of channelling inbestment for raising their income level. Minister Gyawali meets Swaraj, extends condolence on Vajpayee’s demise

Kathmandu, Aug 17 (RSS): Minister for Foreign Affairs, Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, today had a brief courtesy meeting with Minister of External Affairs of India, Ms Sushma Swaraj.
