Father beaten to death by son

Lahan – A father has been beaten to death by his son, following a domestic dispute. Umesh Sadaya,45, a resident of Manarwa in ward no.18 of Lahan Municipality died after being beaten by his 25-year-old son Sanjaya on Saturday evening. Umesh was seriously injured in the incident and died in course of treatment at the Neuro hospital in Biratnagar, according to police. Drivers’ carelessness behind 90% road accidents

Kathmandu – Most of the road accidents have occurred due to drivers’ carelessness in the Kathmandu Valley. According to the information shared by the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, in more than 90 percent road accidents, drivers’ carelessness was blamed. In the last fiscal year (2074/75), the Division recorded a total of 6,381 accidents. Among these, drivers were culpable for 5,961 accidents. Similarly, the factor behind 71 accidents was high speed and mechanical hitches caused 221, overtake 29, pedestrians’ recklessness three, and road condition 48. A total of 219 persons were injured seriously in the incident while 4,333 got minor injuries. Division Chief and SSP Basanta Kumar Pant said drivers were not abiding by traffic rule and driving carelessly resulting in the road accidents. He however admitted, “Narrow roads were also responsible for it.” Among 1.1 million vehicles registered in the Bagmati Zone, nearly 800 thousand vehicles are operated in the Kathmandu Valley. Last year alone, 194 persons had lost lives in the accident. Two wheelers are the most susceptible to accident. NWA founding president Singh remembered

Kathmandu – The Nepal Women Association (NWA), Kathmandu, organised a programme here this morning to pay tribute to the late Mangaladevi Singh, the founding president of NWA. At the programme held in commemoration of her 22nd Memorial Day, Nepali Congress leader Prakash Man Singh laid a wreath on her image at Shobha Bhagawati. The prominent democratic fighter who always raised her voice for the rights of Nepali women had significant contribution to the movements launched in the country against the totalitarian Rana regime and for the restoration of democracy. “The constitution of Nepal has guaranteed many rights to women, but women need to fight themselves for the implementation,” he asserted. He went on to say that the government formed with the help of two-thirds majority failed to address people’s issues. Child martyr Khuna cremated

Kanchanpur – Fourteen-year-old Shani Khuna of Bhagatpur, Bhimdatta municipality, who was killed in police firing a few days ago during the people’s demonstrations against the rape and murder of local Nirmala Pant, was cremated today. Earlier, the government offered the status of martyrdom to the boy, announcing to give Rs one million each to the families of both Khuna and Pant. Curfew imposed again at local level in Kanchanpur

Bhimdattanagar – Curfew order has been imposed at Bhimdatta municipality of Kanchanpur. Tensions have run high here since the murder of 13-year-old Nirmala Pant of Kholti of Bhimdatta municipality-2. Her body was retrieved from a sugarcane field on July 27. The municipality has been under the curfew order for few days, following the death of a 14-year-old boy in police firing in course of the public protest against the murder of Nirmala. The curfew imposed at various places of ward nos 4, 6 and 18 was earlier lifted for five hours and the new order has come into force from 10:00 am today.
