NC told to amend its statute to ensure 33% seats to women

  Kathmandu – The Nepal Women’s Association has asked for 33 per cent seats to women from ward to the central levels in the Nepali Congress. At a programme organized in the capital city on Sunday evening to mark the 22nd memorial day of Association’s founding chairperson late Mangala Devi Singh , the speakers said that one thirds of the seats should be ensured to the women. On the occasion, Nepali Congress leader Prakashman Singh said that the women should pile pressure on the leadership for the party’s statute amendment for women’s rights. “You (women) move ahead in an organized manner for the women’s rights. I am in your side,” Singh said. Likewise, Nepali Congress leader Ambika Basnet said that time has come for further struggle since the women in Nepal were still unsecured. She also urged the women to unite to fight against the violence against women. Also speaking during the event, Association’s chairperson Uma Regmi asked the Nepali Congress to amend the party statute to make sure 33 per cent of the total seats to the women from the ward committee to the central committee. Woman reportedly gang-raped in Inaruwa

Inaruwa –  A woman was gang raped near Halesi Chowk of Inaruwa Municipality-6 in the district headquarters of Sunsari on Saturday night. The 24-year-old lady was reportedly raped in the vicinity of Halesi Chowk along the East-West Highway, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Sunsari Gyanendra Phuyal said. DSP Phuyal confirmed that the mentally-retarded lady was found naked in the state of semi unconscious. Police have rescued the victim and sent to Biratnagar for the medical treatment. Municipality to provide Rs 300,000 to family of Nirmala Panta

Kanchanpur – The Bhimduttanagar Municipality has announced to provide Rs 300,000 in support to the family of Nirmala Panta, a 13-year-old girl who was subsequently murdered after her rape in the district. Mayor of the municipality, Surendra Bista, announced to dole out the assistance amount after meeting with the family members of Panta on Sunday. Earlier, the executive council of the municipality had decided to offer necessary assistance to the family of Panta. Mayor Bista said that the amount would be given from the municipality office and also demanded to book the criminals involved in the murder case. Four people dead in separate incidents

Kathmandu – Four people were killed in separate incidents in Chitwan and Siraha districts. A pedestrian of around 30 years of old died after she was knocked down by a bus (Na 5 Kha 1562) heading to Kathmandu from Rajbiraj. The accident took place at 2:30 am today in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-1, the Chitwan police said. Identity of the deceased woman is not ascertained so far. Meanwhile, two persons died in separate road accidents occurred last night at Golbazaar and Dhangadhimai of Siraha district along the East West Highway, according to the police. Police said that cyclist Jibachh Mahato, 55, of Dhangadhimai Municipality-6 succumbed to injuries after a jeep hit him. Seriously injured Mahato breathed his last on the way to Neuro Hospital, Biratnagar. Likewise, a pedestrian lost his life after a speeding motorcycle hit him near Gagankhola of Dhangadhimai Municipality-8. Police confirmed that seriously injured 22-year-old Govinda Thakur passed away on his way to Biratnagar for medical treatment. One electrocuted in Bhaktapur

Bhaktapur – A man succumbed to injuries after receiving electric shock on Sunday evening at Kamalbinayek in Bhaktapur Municipality-10. Rudra Kafle, 57, was electrocuted after getting in touch with a naked electric wire while trying to fix a zinc sheet in an under-construction house of Nati Prajapati in Kamalbinayak. Deputy Superintendent of Police Rewati Raman Pokharel said that critically hurt Kafle was pronounced dead from the doctors in the Bhaktapur Hospital.
