Extra lane being mooted to ease traffic bottleneck at Jadibuti

The government is looking for an alternative to putting an end to the traffic jam that is a daily phenomenon on the Koteshwar-Jadibuti section of the Araniko highway. It is said the government plans to extend the road on both to its right and left to build extra lanes as an alternative to address the problem of traffic jam on this section. The government also plans to construct an underpass or flyover at this section as the long-term solution to this problem. It has already requested Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for this. The plan is to add three to four lanes on this section of the highway by expanding the width of the road. Spokesperson at the Department of Roads, Shivahari Sapkota said the plan is to construct one more lane towards the north side of the road while it would be expanded up to two or three lanes to its south side for the time-being. According to him, the Department has its own land to the northern side of the road for construction of the land. It will only have to shift the pedestrian’s lane and drain for this purpose. However, to expand the lane on the southern side of the road, the Department will have to request to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation for providing land for the construction of the additional lanes....

Corona virus prevention health desk set up at Jamunaha

A ‘health desk’ has been brought into operation at Jamunaha, the transit point at the Nepal-India border in Banke district, to prevent the entry of corona virus infection. People entering Nepal through this transit point would be tested to check for corona virus infection, Dilli Raj Pokharel, chief of the public health section at the Nepalgunj Sub-metropolitan City, said. 71st Republic Day of India celebrated

The 71st Republic Day of India was celebrated at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu on January 26, 2020. The celebrations began with hoisting of the national flag by Charge d’ Affaires (Cd’A) Dr. Ajay Kumar who then read out the message of the Hon’ble President of India for the occasion. The Cd’A felicitated 01 Veer Nari, 08 widows and 05 next of kins of deceased soldiers by disbursing their dues worth NPR 5.97 Crore and a blanket to each. The Embassy gifted books to 51 libraries and educational institutions spread across all the provinces of Nepal. The Embassy also gifted 30 ambulances and 06 buses to various hospitals, non-profit charitable organizations and educational institutions of Nepal thereby reaffirming Government of India’s commitment to partner with Nepal in its journey towards socio-economic development. NHRC releases song against ethnic discrimination, untouchability

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has released an awareness song against ethnic discrimination and untouchability on Friday. The song was brought to minimize the ethic discrimination and untouchability. NHRC Chairperson Anupraj Sharma made public the song. “The song has aimed at creating favourable atmosphere for equal behaviour to the Dalit and non-Dalit people.” Everyone is equal before law, he said, suggesting that the use of terminologies as Dalit and non-Dalit could be discouraged. Safe environment for Nepal visit: VYN Coordinator Vaidya

Coordinator of the Visit Nepal Year 2020, Suraj Vaidya, has said Nepal has safe environment for visit and this message should be widely circulated across the globe. Inaugurating the Bandipur festival here Friday, he urged the foreign tourists to visit Nepal without any hesitation. The festival is organized by Restaurant and Bar Association of Nepal Kathmandu Chapter with the collaboration of Bandipur Tourism Development Committee and Regional Tourism Development Committee. “Some foreigners still think Nepal is not safe to travel, but it is safe. The message of security and features in Nepal should therefore be spread throughout the world,” he said, adding that tourism is one of the major bases of economic development.
