PM Oli says efforts underway to regain Nepali territory: Adds action on Lalita Niwas scam based on probe committee report

Kathmandu, Feb 15:Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said there would be no compromise on the matters of nation’s sovereignty and geographical integrity and the government was working to regain encroached territory of Nepal from India. Responding to lawmakers’ queries following his address to the House of Representatives on the occasion of completion of two years of the formation of incumbent government today, the Prime Minister said the evidences showed that source of Kaligandaki river, Limpiyadhura and Lipulek area (in western Nepal) were the parts of Nepal. In his attempt to address lawmakers’ queries in regard with the land dispute issue with India, the Prime Minister said, “To sit for talks with India in regard with the border issue is not unilateral. We are working to regain our land and new map of Nepal will be issued soon.” Replying to a query about the possibility of constitution amendment, he said it would be amended in an appropriate time and on the basis of meaning. “We have arrived at this point by following the constitution. The constitution is not a non-amendable document. Its amendment and acceptability are different matters.” He went on to say that the government could not intervene in issues under sub-judice at the court as they would be addressed by the independent judiciary. State 1 Government unveils its ‘achievements’

Itahari, Feb 15: The historic Government of State 1 was formed on 15 February 2018. Exactly after two years of its formation, State 1 Government has unveiled its ‘achievements’ made during this period. Organising a formal function at the premises of Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers in Biratnagar today morning, State Chief Somnath Adhikari ‘Pyasi’, unveiled ‘achievements’ of the state government. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister (CM)Sherdhan Rai said the government struggled from its nascent stage to generate some visible outcomes during two years. CM Rai put declaration of state Capital, establishment of Manmohan Technical University, ending of milk holiday, scientists’ conference, formation of much-needed 39 laws, construction of infrastructures, among others, as visible results of state government. ”27-kilometer-long road has been blacktopped, 129-kilometer-long road has been graveled, 10 motorable bridges have been constructed and 15 suspension bridges have been accomplished”, said CM Rai in his speech. He added, ”62 multi-year roadways in each constituency of the state, 87 Chief Minister Rural Roads, 126 motorable brides and 114 suspension bridges are being constructed.” Likewise, CM Rai said 110 drinking water projects had been completed. Timber import down by 20 per cent; Two involved in timber smuggling arrested

Import of timber into the country has decreased by 20 per cent following the adoption of a policy to increase production. The Forest Reforms Action Plan, 2075 by the Ministry of Forest and Environment has been successful in increasing production and thereby bringing down import. In the fiscal year 2074/75, Nepal had imported 975,000 cubic feet of timber from various countries but that has gone down to 786,000 cubic feet in 2075/76. The increase in timber production has led to almost a balance between demand and supply of timber in the country, the Ministry Spokesperson Dr Sindhu Prasad Dhungana said. By the end of last fiscal year, the country produced 29.9 million cubic feet of timber and grown 30.1 million new saplings. The ministry is also targeting to increase the annual production from 15 million to 100 million through sustainable management of the nearly 6 million hectares of national forest. Meanwhile, two people have been arrested along with smuggled timber. The Division Forest Office, Nuwakot arrested them from Amthang of Bidur municipality. Those arrested at Sukraman Tamang,23, and Amrit Thapa,25, of Bidur-12. They were arrested with the help of police along with a mini-truck used to carry the smuggled timber. Blacktopping of Patan airport airstrip completed

Baitadi, Feb 15: The Patan airport runway has been blacktopped. Though the construction was completed last month, the airport is yet to come into operation. The airport remains closed since the past two decades. It is the second biggest airport after the Geta airport of Kailali in the farwest. The construction was completed 18 months later than the set date. The blacktopped airstrip is 590 meters long and 20 meters wide. Another 70 meters long and 30 meters wide apron has also been black topped. The construction was completed at the total cost of Rs 112.9 million. The terminal building of the airport is yet to be constructed. Hence, it is unlikely that the airport would come into operation any time soon. The airport first came into operation in 1972.
