As many as 42 police personnel of the Armed Police Force Number 3 Gadhimai Brigade Bagmati State based in Rapti municipality, Bhandara have been diagnosed with coronavirus infection at once.   Two of the infected are women police and 40 men police, according to the information shared by the Bharatpur COVID-19 Laboratory. PCR test of all police personnel of the brigade was conducted following the confirmation of the virus among eight, shared brigade commander APF Deputy Inspector General Sandeep Shrestha.   He said that 42 out of 60 samples were diagnosed with the virus. There are more than 300 APF personnel in the brigade. The infected police personnel would be treated in isolation ward within the brigade premises, Shrestha said....

Landslide blocks Hilbang rivulet in Myagdi; Downstream villages at risk

Landslide occurred at Managala rural municipality-5, Arman of Myagdi has blocked the rivulet flowing straight through Hilbang village.   Locals have been cautioned with the rise in the risk at Khanibas, Kursila and Kharapani area following blockage of the local rivulet since 4.30 pm on Monday, Mangala-5 ward chair Bhupendra Bahadur Khatri. “The landslide debris got piled up in the rivulet. If the blocked rivulet gets outlet abruptly it will invite catastrophic damages to the downstream villages”, ward chair Khatri added. Meanwhile, a team comprising local people’s representatives reached the site to take stock of the status of Hilabang rivulet.   The landslide from the community forest has blocked the rivulet and formed an artificial lake, posing a serious threat to the downstream community people, the team members shared. A police team has also been mobilized in the landslide-hit area from Babiyachaur. The blockage of the rivulet has stoked fear of the local residents of Kursila and Kharapani....

Rescue flights of fifth phase to begin from today

The rescue flights of fifth phase are scheduled to take place from today to repatriate the Nepali citizens stranded in foreign countries due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In doing so, national flag carriers, Nepal Airlines Corporation and Himalaya Airlines along with other foreign airlines are conducting chartered flight services from August 17 to bring back Nepali from foreign destinations.   The Nepal Airlines would make chartered rescue flights up to 31 August while the Himalaya Airlines has made public to operate the service up to 30 August. Following the rapid spread of coronavirus infection in different parts of the country including federal capital Kathmandu, the government has reviewed its earlier decision to resume the operation of domestic and international flights from 17 August. Taking into consideration the recent situation, the government has decided to put off the commercial flights up to 31 August. However, the rescue flights to repatriate Nepali from different destinations would continue. The government has already decided to repatriate 500 Nepali daily through chartered flights. Among them 200 would be repatriated on government cost whereas 300 others would be brought back on their own.   As informed interested Nepali would be repatriated from concerned destinations acting on the recommendations of the Embassy of Nepal in the respective countries. Unveiling of Portrait of Vajpayee at ICCR headquarters

ICCR is organizing an event in the memory of late Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji, former Prime Minister of India on 16 August, 2020 by unveiling Vajpayee’s portrait at ICCR premises. The event is being organized on  Vajpayee ji’s 2nd death anniversary remembering him and his contributions towards the building of Nation. The event on 16 August will commence with the unveiling of Vajpayee ji’s painting by Ram Nath Kovind,  President of India in a virtual mode in the presence of V. Muraleedharan, Minister of State for External Affairs and Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, President of ICCR and Member of Parliament. The painting has been created in oil-on- canvas by Vasudeo Kamath, an eminent and well-known painter in Mumbai, a gold medalist who has received several awards both nationally and internationally. Vajpayee served as the ex-officio President of ICCR from March 1977 to August 1979 when he was Foreign Minister in the post-Emergency Janata government. During his tenure as Foreign Minister, Vajpayee  became the first person in 1977 to deliver a speech to the United Nations General Assembly in Hindi.
