Embassy of India celebrates India’s 72nd Republic Day

Kathmandu – The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu has celebrated the 72nd Republic Day of India. On Tuesday, Indian Ambassador to Nepal Vinay Mohan Kwatra hoisted the flag and read out the message of the President of India at the embassy. On the occasion of the Republic Day, the Ambassador felicitated Veer Nari, war widows and next of kins of deceased soldiers by disbursing their dues worth NRs. 3.68 crore and a blanket to each. Later in the day, the Ambassador hosted a reception at India House. Foreign Minister of Nepal, Mr. Pradeep Kumar Gyawali graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. NRNA’s amended statute and financial report passed

The general convention of Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has passed its amended statute and financial report unanimously. General-Secretary Dr. Hemraj Sharma presented NRNA’s annual report, Treasurer Mahesh Kumar Shrestha a financial report while Coordinator of Statute Amendment Suggestion Committee, Bhusan Ghimire, and NRNA’s Vice-President Mana KC jointly presented the statute amendment proposal in the special general convention. The general convention unanimously passed the NRNA’s financial report of fiscal year 2017/18 and 2018/19 presented by Treasurer Shrestha. Commitment was made to forward work execution as per the amendment provision on the occasion. Over 35 thousand people to be vaccinated against COVID-19 in Province 1

Thirty-five thousand people deputed in frontline in treatment of patients and sanitation workers would be vaccinated with Covishield vaccine in Province 1. A total of 35,576 people including 34,851 health workers and staffs, women health volunteers of government and private hospitals under the Province 1 would administer the vaccines against COVID-19. Administrative Officer of Provincial Health Supply Management Centre, Biratnagar, Kashiraj Parajuli, said that they have received only 9,600 viles vaccine in the first phase sent by the health Service Department under the Ministry of Health and Population. He added that the centre has received the vaccine sent for 16 districts of Province 1 and Siraha and Saptari districts of Province 2. A total of 14,003 health workers and employees of government and private hospitals of Taplejung, 831 of Dhankuta, 1,237 of Udayapur, 1,176 of Bhojpur, 12,056 of Morang, 1,690 of Ilam, 1,366 of Okhaldhunga, 1,600 of Khotang, 4,977 of Jhapa, 723 of Tehrathum, 949 of Sankhuwasabha, 686 of Solu, 5233 of Sunsari and 5924 of Panchthar of Province 1 would be vaccinated....

K2 winter summiteers receive a rousing welcome home

The Nepali team of 10 mountaineers, who created a new world record, of successfully climbing the world’s second highest mountain K2 were welcomed back home in a grand manner. The 10 Nepali mountaineers are the first ever to reach atop the 8,611 meters high K2 in Pakistan during the winter season. The team includes Nirmal Purja ‘nimsdai’, Migma David Sherpa, Mingma Tenjing Sherpa, Gyalzen Sherpa, Prem Chiri Sherpa, Dawa Sherpa, Kilu Sherpa, Mingma G, Dawa Tenjing Sherpa and Sona Sherpa. After a rousing welcome at the Tribhuvan International Airport this morning, they were paraded with a motorcycle rally to reach to Nepal Tourism Board via Tinkune, Naya Baneswar, Maitighar, Bhadrakali, Sundhara, Kantipur and Thamel. They will be felicitated at the NTB at the joint auspices of the Department of Tourism, Mountaineering Association of Nepal and other tourism organizations. The team is also scheduled to be honoured by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at a special event to be held at Baluwatar later today. The Nepali team had reached the summit of Mt K2 on January 16, Saturday, while singing the national anthem and holding the national flag. COVID-19 vaccines arrive in Karnali

The COVID-19 vaccine, ‘Covishield’, provided by India under grant assistance has arrived in Karnali Province. The 11 thousand 780 doses of the vaccine supplied by the Federal Government has been brought to Surkhet on Monday. Earlier, the vaccines were kept in cold store in Nepalgunj. The Provincial Health Services Directorate has made preparation to administer the vaccines from Wednesday. Director at the Directorate Dr Rabin Khadka said the vaccines would be administered by making the 12 hospitals of Karnali as the vaccination centres. According to him, the vaccination would be carried out at the eight district hospitals as well as the Provincial Hospital at Birendranagar, the Mehalkuna Hospital Surkhet, Karnali Academy of Health Sciences Jumla and Chaurajahari Community Hospital Paschim Rukum as the vaccination centres. The vaccines would be transported by air from Nepalgunj to the mountainous districts of the Province, namely, Humla, Jumla, Mugu and Dolpa while it would be supplied by roadway from Surkhet to the remaining districts. Around 24 thousand doses of the vaccine has arrived in the first phase, Khadka said. The health workers, sanitation workers, security personnel deputed for managing the dead bodies of the infected persons, ambulance drivers and the women health volunteers would be vaccinated in the first phase....
