Kathmandu – India’s Minister of Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, paid an official visit to Nepal from March 8 to 10 (Chaitra 26 to 28 in the Nepali calendar).
The primary purpose of his visit was to participate in the Third BIMSTEC Ministerial Meeting on Agriculture, held in Kathmandu on March 9 (Chaitra 27), aimed at promoting multilateral technical and economic cooperation among the member states of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).
During his visit, Minister Chouhan held a bilateral meeting with Nepal’s Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Ramnath Adhikari. The two ministers reviewed existing bilateral initiatives and development projects in the agriculture sector and explored further areas of cooperation.
On March 9, both ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Agricultural Cooperation. The agreement aims to promote collaboration in agricultural science and technology, farm production, agri-trade, plant protection, horticulture, organic farming, and other related areas.
Minister Chouhan also paid a courtesy call on Nepal’s Prime Minister, KP Sharma Oli. The meeting focused on strengthening the close ties between the two countries and further enhancing cooperation in the field of agriculture.
This visit contributed to the ongoing high-level exchanges between India and Nepal and is expected to bolster both bilateral and regional cooperation in agriculture and related sectors.
