Kathmandu – The eighth Nepal-India Director General-level Border Security Meeting discussed a proposal to prevent illegal infiltration and illegal entry.

The Nepal-India Border Security Coordination Meeting that began on Saturday discussed various issues for further coordination between the two sides in border security.

Stating that illegal infiltration can be a challenge to national security, Nepali security officials have urged the Indian side to strictly regulate the movement of third-country nationals by land.

The 11 points set as a common agenda in the meeting were presented by Armed Police Force (APF) Inspector General Raju Aryal. During that meeting, the Nepali side also prioritized the proposal to set up a separate ‘tourist desk’ to facilitate the movement of citizens of the two countries and regulate people from third countries.

“Nepal has presented proposals on issues including crime control in the border area, information exchange for this purpose, control of revenue leakage, human trafficking and control of illegal entry of third-country nationals. The meeting will conclude tomorrow with a conclusion,” he said.

The meeting is being attended by a six-member team led by Inspector General Aryal, high-ranking security officials, representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Nepal Police, Investigation Department, Survey Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Director General of India’s Border Security Force (SSB) Amrit Mohan Prasad.

The Indian side in the meeting said that mutual cooperation is necessary due to the problem of identifying third-country nationals and suggested the establishment of a joint desk for that.

India has made such a proposal as the trend of people from countries such as Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Afghanistan and others entering Nepal through Indian territory has increased.

On the occasion, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak also met with Amrit Mohan Prasad, Director General of the Indian Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
