Kathmandu – Laxmi Sunrise Bank concluded its 9th Invitational Golf Tournament at the Gokarna Resort in Kathmandu on Saturday. The competition, themed ‘Swing for Sustainability’, highlighted the bank’s zero carbon concept and commitment to green initiatives, the bank said.
A study of the total carbon emissions of the tournament before the tournament estimated that the event would emit one ton of carbon and would require 45 trees to be planted to offset it. However, the bank has committed to planting 1,000 trees.
Each participant was also given a sapling as a personal contribution to a green and sustainable future, the bank said.
A total of 107 golfers, including eight women, participated in the one-day event. The participants competed in an 18-hole Stableford format with a handicap of 34.
Atmaram Simkhada won the competition with 43 points, while runner-up Ashish Lal Shrestha scored 42 points. Similarly, the best gross was Tashi Tshiring (38 points), senior category winner Tulsi Bhatta (40 points), women’s winner Tara Karki Chitrakar (35 points), women’s runner-up Sumitra Khadka (30 points), longest drive was Norbu Tshiring Sherpa and closest to the pin was Anil Kumar Sinha.
The winners were awarded by Laxmi Sunrise Chairman Raman Nepal, while the bank’s CEO Ajay Bikram Shah, Gokarna Golf Club Chairman Suhrid Ghimire, and club captain Joseph Nathan emphasized the commitment to the sustainability of the competition.
